How did it happen? Ellen could not figure it out.
The last thing she could possibly remember was Duncan's lips on hers, and how normal and destined it felt. She had walked out of the room and shut the door behind her, then leaned on it for support. Duncan had kissed her.
And she wasn't complaining. She ran upstairs to her bedroom and shut the door behind her. She threw herself on the bed, her body shaking with not sobs, but fear. After that episode, she went down stairs only to see Duncan heading out the door. At the sound of her footsteps her turned around to meet her stare. Her breath hitched at the sight of his brown eyes. He held her gaze for a few seconds before he turned and left.
Duncan's P.O.V
What was he thinking. He had just kissed Ellen, his hostage. And he wasn't complaining either. He'd never forget the look on her face. It was a mixture of confusion, hurt, and, he couldn't believe he was saying this, it also looked like she enjoyed it. He at the moment was heading over to Burton's to give him a daily report, and to see his daughter, Sawyer. He had gotten out of the car when he was all of a sudden kicked on the ground, and everything went black.
He woke up in an abandoned warehouse, he was really awake when he felt Logan rip the duck tape from his mouth and the bandanna from his eyes.
"You know there's easier ways of contacting me Logan, you know, texting, maybe an email." said Duncan.
"A lot of people are upset." replied Logan.
"I'm upset too now what."
All of a sudden he heard faint footsteps from the hallway leading into the room. He looked up and saw an extremely ugly guy in a N.S.A uniform walking towards him.
He said his name was Colonel Blair (Stupidhead- to me the author, I am soooo glad Duncan shot him) And he explained that Duncan should have stayed out of the OTHER assassination plot in New York. Duncan said they could still work together, and Stupidhead agreed.
Ellen's P.O.V
Ellen was downstairs in the kitchen making coffee when she heard the door slam. She knew who it was, she had heard the thumping of his shoes against the hardwood so many times. Every step he took felt like a vibration going from her toes to her heart, leaving her unable to do anything. She looked up and held his gaze for a fraction of a second, then she looked down again. He stopped right to her right. She turned to acknowledge him. She started, but the words wouldn't come out quite right.
"Uh, about last night." she began awkwardly.
"Right." Duncan replied, his eyes managing to avoid hers.
"Everything's been so confusing and, heightened."
He gives a small nod to agree.
"I know what I'm supposed to feel, I'm supposed to hate you, but, I don't." Her voice faded to a small whisper on the last part.
He looks down for a few seconds, but then his eyes meet hers and he says, "I'm glad to hear that."
Then its her turn to look down. She takes a step into the space between them, they were now breathing the same air. He stops her dead in her tracks by saying, "Ellen, we can't, we need to focus right now on what really matters, saving or families."
"Yeah," she says obviously surprised and a little bummed. He took her hand in his and said, "We're doing the right thing."
She nods her head in agreement, and he drops her hand and leaves the room.
