Okay! I decided to rewrite the whole story from the two chapters I had because I felt like it was weak and the title just wasn't doing it right like I had thought. I still have the old file saved in case I do want to revisit it but try and tweak it and maybe use it for another story. As I was reading the first draft I wrote practically on the spot while doing laundry and watching The Office this idea has come to me. What if SAO could be set in a Walking Dead type setting but also have it different as well. I kept the concept of Having Kirito's mind whipped but keep Asuna's intact and I'll tell you why later on down the road. Give me a couple days to rewrite chapter two and then I will upload chapter 3. Trust me guys I'm still trying to work out the kinks of it. Thank you.

Chapter 1-Sweet Dreams
Asuna
I hand in my test knowing full well that I will make it into the top college when I am done here in high school. I walk out of the classroom silently, with my head held high as I pass the other students still taking it. The list will be out in a few days and I'll be the first in line to see my name at the very top.
When the list comes out I'm not there. I'm not in last. I'm not in the middle and I'm not at the top. My name isn't anywhere on this list. I told my mother that I would be the top student she nodded and smiled just a little knowing she has full confidence in me. But I'm not on the list. I studied hard, I stayed up late and I took notes on everything and knew they had enough info on them to get everything or close to everything right.
I can hear students talking about me behind my back. Did you see know it all didn't make the list, she didn't make the list, you know what the means, she acts like she knows everything, but this just proves it. I try to block it all out, the students whispering, the teachers pointing and saying I thought she was going to make it the best out of everyone.
I feel cold, numb and I can't even breath. How did this happen? I keep looking but the list seems as though it keeps going and going. I try to look through it all, but my name shows up nowhere on the list. I get to the last page and slowly go down the list seeing all the names I get to the last one and it doesn't belong to me. This can't be happening to me.
"How could you Asuna?" I know my mother's chilling voice anywhere.
I slowly turn around and her cold eyes rest on me. Her face inches away from me, and I can feel myself hold my breath.
"This would have never happened if you didn't get sick"
"I'm not sick! I've never been sick." I try to tell her through tears, standing tall and looking back into her chilling eyes.
She takes my arm and holds it tightly and I see a sinister smile creep up on her face. "Oh but my dear you are sick." She pushes me and as I hit the wall it fades away. I steady my balance but know if she pushes me again or if I back up just a little I'll fall.
She reaches out, her arm a rotting, some bones are coming out and skin is falling off. She brings me close to her face, her eyes are sunken in, her hair is falling out, her clothes are falling off her rotting body and looks me right in the eye, still smiling.
"Your sick just like us, you'll look just like this and you can't keep fighting the hunger, you'll give in like we all did" My eyes widen, and I can feel tears coming to the rim of my eyes. Her grip hardens this time as the crowd grows everyone is rotting, bones are showing more, their eyes are glowing red, and they are reaching for me. "You can't what fate has written for you, they are coming." She laughs and throws me off. My screams are swallowed by her laughs
I wake up in a cold sweat breathing fast and heavy, my heart pounding in my chest. I try to take a few deep breaths. I bring my knees to my chest and wrap my arms around them and lay my head on my legs. My breathing becomes easier and my shaking starts to stop. I take a deep breath in and blow it out slowly. I raise my head a little and look to my right out the window.
I look at the moon and the stars and the land that lies beyond the mountains. Beyond those its rumored that's where the infected go to starve or eat something that's wild. I look at the huge door that separates us from them. I look at it closely and never realized just how such they bang and shove on it. I blink and look away, laying myself down in my bed. Will I really turn out like them? I close my eyes and try to have sweeter dreams.
The bell set for 6 a.m. wakes me up and I blink away my tired eyes as best as I can. I already know what's coming and it's our medicine, along with a cup of water. I stumble out of my bed and wait for the tiny doors to open one, so we can be seen taking the pill and one to slide the cup in. I rub my eyes and yawn and I can hear the head nurse banging on doors for all of us to get up.
"Get up you slums time for medicine" I'll the day she comes down with what we have. She bangs on my door and it makes me jump a little. I knock back so she knows I'm awake.
My screen opens, and I see a pair of green eyes like fresh leaves stare at me. I look down and take the cup that has my pills. I look over the pills one blue for our vision, one green to help with our muscles, one is yellow that's to help our skin and hair and the last one is pink that's to help our sickness slow down. I put the tasteless pills in my mouth and swallow with the help of the water. They slam my screen shut and go to the next room.
I turn on the lights and go to check my schedule and its looks like in 30 minutes I'm supposed to go have blood work done, after that have my body inspected, after that do some training, then have lunch. I put my hospital gown on knowing for blood work and with having to do tests most of the morning it'll be easier for them to operate if I have a grown on. I put my hair in two brads then clip the rest to the head since tests are easier down with everything up.
The bell rings and I step out into the hallway waiting by my door. Others are joined either in a simple t-shirt and jeans, some have a light jacket and jeans on and others are dressed in a gown like me. I stand with my arms straight down my body and focus my vision above this person's head.
I'm the first to leave the floor and the others are broken off into their groups. I follow the line of people and each of us is given a room. The door closes behind me and I take a seat on the bench and wait for the doctor to enter. I look at the ground and wonder what they will find this time. Maybe they have a cure and I can get out of here and see if I really did place to get into a good college.
The door opening makes me jump a little and a nurse walks in and places a sheet of paper in front of me. "Fill this out and when your down slide it under the door" she turns quick and leaves the room slamming the door behind her. I'm still human, I think to myself. I fill in my name, my current address which is the hospital, and I put I haven't experienced any changes since the last checkup, which was just last week. I guess some people change faster than we expect.
I slide the clip under the door and go back to my seat. A computer sits right to me, doctor tools are to my left and then I see signs and symptoms of what I have. They don't have a name for it yet, but when you do get sick, you are known as "infected". I look away from it, could I really have it? I shake my head and jump again when the door opens.
"Hello Asuna, my name nurse Natsuki and I will be the one admitting your test labs today. Please go ahead and lay back on the pillow. First, we will draw blood, then look at parts and finally exam how you react to certain things okay." I simply nod
As she takes the blood samples I stare at the ceiling should I really ask her? I mean nothing was ever confirmed besides a lousy eyes test, maybe she does have the answers. I look over at her and she seems concentrated. I open my mouth and she looks up and smiles warmly at me.
"Can I ask something." I ask lightly trying to push an upcoming memory, of someone else who had a warm smile like that.
She simple nods and puts another tube on the IV that's in my arm. I suck a deep breath in and "am I really infected?" She stops her work and looks up at me with a blank stare. I keep my eyes on her so she knows I'm serious about the question.
She fixes her glasses and makes sure the door is closed. She take the last tube and put it son her little table and take the IV out of my arm. As she checks my ears, eyes, take my heart and blood flow reading and jots each on down on the chart. Last thing she does is take my temperature and jots that down.
I sit up and she puts her hand up, she looks at me with sympathy in her eyes and I already know the news that is coming. "Asuna, its common to be in denial but your charts, your blood work and how I just took everything and it all points to you being infected. If you look, your pupils have a hard time dilating, your ears fill with more wax, your heart rate decreases, and your body temp goes up." I stare at the charts and seek week by week how everything was slowly decreasing or increasing. I drop the chart and I don't even hear it bang on the floor. My breaths start to get heavy, I feel heavy.
I feel arms come around me, I look up at see a warm smile, strong arms and warm hands. You…
"Asuna stay with me it's okay, I know this can be a shock especially since you haven't been here very long. Take a few breaths me inhale and exhale slow, again." I do as Nurse Natsuki instructs and take the breaths. "I'm sorry Asuna I know news like this can be overwhelming and scary. Just keep taking the pills okay, the pills will help." She sounded robotic there. She puts a hand on my shoulder and starts to walk off. "when you are ready we'll go to the next step and see how you react." She opens the door and walks out closing the door gently.
I take a deep breath in, get up and walk towards the wall, I clench my hands into fists and look up only to see my mother as I saw her in my dream. "You can't escape the infected my dear" She smiles, and I see drool sliding out of her mouth. I fall back and catch myself on my hands. She gets down on all fours and looks at me with drool falling out of her mouth, she chuckles here and there and I start to back up and she follows me laughing harder, when my back hits the door she brings her face close to me "I told you, you were sick" I cover my face with my arms as she launches herself at me.
I almost scream but when I slowly open my eyes and see I just hallucinated the whole thing. I get up off the floor feeling dizzy I grab the bed to steady myself. I take a few deeper breaths but this time I can feel breakfast coming up. (Before I entered the room) I drop to my knees and began to throw up.
I was moved to another room as they cleaned up and took my puke out to the garbage. Nurse Natsuki rushes into me and tells the other nurse to get our who was trying to force more pills down me. She pulls up a chair and sits in front of me. I don't make eye contact I just keep my eyes the ground.
"How are you feeling Asuna" I shake my head and keep my eyes to the ground.
"Well we're going to do your test in here. I'm going to hold an item in front of your face, I want you to tell me how it makes you feel or if it's going to make you react." I look up at her slightly and she's giving me that warm smile.
I simple nod and look at the ground. She goes over to the counter and picks up a piece of meat with her tiny clippers, she holds it front of my face and this time her eyes seem stern. I look at the meat, what kind of meat is this? I look away from it and she quietly gets up from her seat. She comes back with a knife and holds it front of me. I'm starting to feel uncomfortable. She puts it back and then holds a bullet in front of me. I knock it out of her fingers and then gasp at what I just did.
"I'm sorry, I don't know why I did that." She smiles at me again and silently gets up from her seat.
"Last one" she tells me.
She comes back and puts a mirror in front of me, when I look at my reflection I see myself but then skin starts to rot on my face, my teeth start to show, my eyes become pale and I smile the chilling smile my mother gave me. I raise my fist and punch at the mirror. Making it break into a few cracks. Nurse Natsuki takes the mirror away and stand up fast.
She doesn't say goodbye, she doesn't smile at me, instead she leaves and slams the door. I look at the hand and see blood dripping form it. Better get in here fast and clean it up. I hold my hand gently in my other and let that blood drip in that one.
"All those who did labs today please go back to your room and follow what you are schedule for next." I start to get up but then my door opens again and nurse Natsuki walk in with bandages and stitches.
"I'm sorry if that scared you, these tests are just necessary…"
"To see where we are at in our own mind." I finish her sentence and she simply just nods. She sews me up and then sends me off to my room to change.
I change into a white tank top, a small jacket that ends at my chest, a red skirt and brown boots. I put a belt with my knife around my waist and start towards the door when an alarm goes off. My room turns red and I run towards my window knowing its one of the windows that looks over the tall door that keeps the infected out. The door had been left open and I could see the infected running in.
What idiot left it open, there is no way they could have broken through that door. It stands tall and takes something to pull it open, there is no where they broke though. I run to open my door and see a nurse come into my room.
A knock on my room makes me jump I open the screen on my door and it's the nurse from this morning. She has sweat dripping down her face, I open my door and as I do she starts to say something but an infected comes running at her and starts to attack her. I can see her legs moving back and forth as this thing starts to tear at her face with claws, her screams fill the hallway and others are starting to run.
I go back into my room to grab the things I picked when I first got here. Training makes sense now I grab my bow along with the quiver and the arrows I have, maybe I can stop by the armory and see if I can get more. I take my rapier wrap the belt around me that its attached to, I also take my red cape and wrap it around me and bring the hood up close to my face. When I near my door I peek out and see the nurse laying there. Her face all tore up, some of her insides out of her body. I step around her carefully and run down the hall towards the exit.
As I near it the door swings open and there stands a boy. I look up at him and see his grey eyes. His black hair flat against his face, he holds his guns out and ready, along with his sword on his back in case he needs it. He grabs my arm and tells me to keep going until I am outside. He pushes gently onto the stair way. I take one more look back and he's running down the hallway. I walk halfway down the stairs and think maybe he could use the help I look up one more time and think maybe I should go after him I start up the stairs and when I swing the door open when…
"I told you, you couldn't escape it" my mother screams in my face, I fall back words down the stairs hitting my head and my world goes black.
I feel heat on my face and can hear people talking.
"We don't even know if she's sick."
I feel so dizzy, I try to make out where I am, but everything is still blurry.
"So, I was just supposed to leave her there like I did with half the others in that damn hospital?"
I try to open my eyes again, but they feel fat and heavy, that voice sounds very familiar.
"Well we all need to be tested to make sure we're not all going to turn on each other."
So many voices, so many screams, where am I?
"I think she's waking up."
I open my eyes just enough to focus on the person standing above me, the guy from earlier who had pushed me on the stairs. I know this might be a shock to you but you don't know me, but I know you. Kazuto, I think silently to myself and my world goes black again.
And we are at the end good job if you made it all the way. Anyways let me know what you think of this new redone edition of this. Who knows maybe I'll rewrite it again. If I gave you nightmares I'm sorry
