A/N: Seems like that scene needed just a little something more.

"I thought she was going to marry you," he said, staring up at the sky and trying to catch his breath.

The words penetrated the haze of pain, and Booth turned his head slightly. "What?"

"When someone told me Temperance was getting married. I thought it was you"

Booth mustered a short laugh that came out more like a groan. "The first problem with that is she doesn't believe in marriage"

"Oh." Max paused. "Then you two aren't-"

"No! God, no. She's my partner, my best friend-"

"And you're in love with her"

"No! I mean, of course not. She's-"

"It's okay," he said, patting him on the arm with some difficulty. Booth groaned inwardly. How had he managed to let himself end up laying on the pavement having an awkward conversation about Bones with a certain escaped felon?

They lay in silence for a few moments before Max spoke again.

"She talks about you all the time, and I don't even think she realises it. Booth says, and Booth thinks, and complete faith that Booth is as good as his word. She's half gone and doesn't know it. You're a good man, Booth, and you've done right by her. Just don't mess it up"

Booth rolled and got to his feet, offering his hand to the other man. "You and I have a lot of things in common, Max. But screwing it up with Bones will never be one of them."
