She's sat in the corner,
Pills cover the floor,
She's Suzie Costello and they call her a whore.
They call her fat,
They call her ugly,
And when she cries Owen thinks it's funny.
Jack pushed her to the limit till one day she snapped,
She took the bottle and opened the cap.
She swallowed nine, hoping she'd die…
Suzie Costello was only 24 when she died. No family, no friends. No one. Another lonely soul doing what is their only option. She'd been cutting herself for years. Ever since she was 13, the first time, she felt so happy and powerful. She needed that feeling again and again so cut herself more and more. The release she got when the blade sunk into her flesh was addictive – like smoking, just without the gum and patches. She'd always sit on her bed in the early hours of the morning when everyone else was asleep and cut herself. She'd draw the scissors and hold them like she was curling a piece of ribbon. She'd bring it down, heavily, on her arm or hip, sometimes even her leg. Then she'd let the blood flow. She'd use her clothes as tissues, thinking that when they do an autopsy and go through all of her things they'd see how much she really struggled. She'd lie still so they scab easier. At school, she'd pick the scabs off and let them bleed so she could get out of lessons. Everyone despised her but she didn't care. She was her own person and she'd die in her own way…
Now her lifeless body lies on the floor,
With a suicide note taped to her door…
Torchwood found her in her flat. She hadn't been in for two days and she hadn't answered any of her calls. Jack found her first and he froze on the spot. Ianto had stood next to him and swallowed his tears. They'd close the door and hold her dead body. Her blood staining their clothes. Jack had cried, he wanted to know why she'd done it. Was everything that bad? But Suzie's death, took its toll on Jack. He'd lost another friend because he was too blind to see them struggling with the curse he'd placed on them. Ianto picked up the knife and held it in his hands. Jack watched him nervously. There was this glimmer in his eyes, a dangerous glimmer. Like he'd done it before. Jack grabbed the knife before Ianto had a chance. Jack left Ianto at Suzie's to clear up saying he'd collect her when she was ready. Ianto watched him go and saw the note taped to the door. He stood up and picked it off and started reading. 'My brave hero. I am sorry that you're reading this but it was inevitable. It had to happen one day and that day was yesterday. Jack, I'm sorry but I can't carry your burden anymore. I'm sorry to say but you put too much on my shoulders and it broke me. Owen, you were great but never really understood. But, ever since that night, I can't look at you in the same way. You were thinking of someone, and that someone wasn't me. Ianto, you're coffee was the best and now, as I'm writing this, I regret that we didn't get to know each other well enough. There was always something about you and i could never put my finger on it. Tosh. Yours is in my drawer, you know where. Well, thank you all and treat my replacement in a way that I would. All the best, Suzie xx' Ianto reread the letter and cried. It wasn't for another six and a half hours he returned to the hub. He walked in and Jack looked at him with no emotion. Ianto looked away and walked into his cave deep within the hub.
