A/N: Hey! This is just something I wrote while in a really boring class at college. Anyway. Let me know what you think. :)
Summary: Han comes home to his wife crying and comforts her.
Disclaimer: I don't own Star Wars or any of its characters.
"Hey, Sweetheart! I'm home!" Han said in a mocking tone as he opened the door to his and Leia's apartment. It was a really long day at work and now and all he felt like doing was just sit back, drink some Corellian whiskey and relax.
He made his way into the kitchen, trying to figure out where Leia was. She usually at least saluted him when he got home. He had been pretty sure she was home, as all her work for the day was done. "Well, of course, Leia's always working extra hours when she doesn't have to", he thought, ready to spend the evening alone. He was already on his way to the bedroom when he heard a noise that appeared to be coming from the living room.
"Sweetheart? Where are you?"
He stopped in the living room and saw her there. She was curled up on the couch and, as it seemed, was crying. He couldn't see her face, but his heart broke when he heard her sniffling and saw her disheveled, loose hair. Han sat down next to her, worried. It wasn't like his wife to cry like that.
"What happened, Leia? What is it?" Han put his arm around her and pulled her to him until she was curled up next to him. She hugged him, but didn't answer.
"Hey, hey... Look at me. Why are you crying, Leia?" He gently caressed her hair and waited until she finally looked up. Staring into her swollen eyes, Han could see the hurt she was feeling and he wanted nothing more than to make her pain go away, whatever the reason was for her to feel that way.
She shook her head.
"It's nothing, Han. Really."
"I don't believe you for a second. Something must be wrong for you to be here crying alone in the middle of the evening. I'm not stupid, Leia. C'mon, you know you can tell me anything."
"I... Ok. Ok. I swear it's nothing. It's just that I..." She sighed, trying to find the right words. Finally, she shook her head and looked him into his eyes, as she started "My whole life... I fought, I was in politics. Until now, I'd never had some time for myself. I never thought that I'd want to have a family. Well, I mean, I never thought I would live long enough to have one. Do you understand that? You were never in my plans. I thought I would die, that day in the Death Star. And then you were there. And everything happened so fast since then. I never would have thought one day we would be married. Right now it's so... Funny. It's so funny how complete I feel. I didn't want love, I didn't want a family. How can I feel so happy when a couple of years ago I had no idea I wanted this? Do you understand what I'm saying?"
Han was lost in his own thoughts, trying to figure out how to answer to that. How do you react to something like that? He searched her eyes, that were a bit less swollen, but still red and he saw the vulnerability in them, something she hardly ever showed even to him. He took a deep breath.
"I- yes, I do. How can you suddenly feel so whole when you had an empty life before? Sweetheart, I also had no perspective of anything, you know that. But I'm glad we're here now. Aren't you?"
"Yes! Of course I am. It's just so surreal. But it's fine. I just never really had the time to let it all sink in until now. Now I'm fine, I guess. I'll be fine. I'm just happy I have you here with me."
Han hugged her closer and gave her a kiss to the forehead. If he was going to be completely honest, he also felt this way sometimes. It had been a little over a year since they'd gotten married and sometimes he still stared at her, lying by his side on the bed, and wondered how it all happened. He had never planned to settle down, to spend his life with someone other than Chewbacca. Until he started to know her better. And then he was caught, he knew he wanted to wake up every day with her by his side. It was really overwhelming, when he really thought about it. How he changed his whole life for someone, some princess he met while he had a price on his head. And it did make him sad to realize the emptiness he felt before, but he was already over it. Leia, he very well knew, was always too busy to think about it. But she would come to terms with it, like he had.
"Well, Princess," he gave her one final squeeze and got up to make his way to the kitchen "what are we having for dinner?"
She followed him to the kitchen so they could find something to eat. "Yes, I'll be fine", she thought "as long as he is here with me".
