The final scene

This is simply my idea for the ending scene for The Office. I had posted an outline on another website and got a great reaction, prompting me to post here. I wrote it in a screenplay format, as I always envisioned it as the ending scene.

INT. LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Transition from previous scene

Camera pulls out to reveal CeCe (about 8 years old now) and Philip (now about 6 years old) watching a TV with the "documentary" playing. It looks like this is someone's living room, with a TV with the documentary playing. Towards the right of the frame, you can see a hallway entrance.

CECE

(while still watching the screen)

What a dork

PHILIP

(turns towards his sister)

Hey, don't call Daddy a dork!

CeCe gives her brother a very Jim-esque look, then gives an exasperated sigh. She then turns towards the camera

CECE

Uncle Michael, why do you have all these videos?

Before an answer is given, a doorbell is heard.

MICHAEL

(in a sing-song voice)

Oh…I wonder who that could be

HOLLY

(from off-camera)

I'll get it

From off-camera, we see Holly get off of the sofa and emerge with a noticeable baby bump. She heads into the hallway. We hear the sound of the door opening, and subsequent voices of Holly, Jim, and Pam saying hi to each other. Jim and Pam enter the scene. They have aged just a few years from what we are used to from the documentary. They are dressed as if they are returning from some sort of formal glitzy event.

PAM

(to Holly as they enter the scene) Thanks again for keeping an eye on them.

PHILIP AND CECE

(together)

Mommy! Daddy!

The kids run up to hug their parents.

JIM

Hey kids! Did you have fun with your Uncle Michael and Auntie Holly?

CECE

We saw you two looking like dorks. (laughs)

PAM

What?

Pam and Jim look up and notice the camera. We hear Michael snickering in the background

PAM (CONT'D)

Michael, what's with the camera?

JIM

Yeah, I thought we were done with this years ago.

PAM

Michael, please put down the camera.

MICHAEL

Okay, okay.

The frame shifts a bit to clearly show that the camera has been put down, but it is still filming. The frame still has Jim, Pam, and Holly. Michael steps into frame to join them. Camera focus is still clearly on Jim and Pam.

JIM

The kids weren't too much trouble, were they?

HOLLY

Not at all. It was a pleasure.

Michael snickers

CECE

(from off-camera)

Why are you guys late? That was longer than you said.

MICHAEL

(chuckling again)

That's what…

Holly gives Michael a gentle kick.

MICHAEL (CONT'D)

(clears throat)

So, how was the art exhibit?

Pam and Jim beam at each other

JIM

Beesly knocked it out of the park.

Pam and Jim continue beaming at one another.
