Maybe he had a thing for blonds.
"Cloud!"
Leon resisted the urge to turn his head at the sound of his name, and sighed inwardly when the kitchen door bounced off its hinges and crashed into a shelf.
"He's not here." He took another sip of coffee.
"Oh." Tifa didn't sound as disappointed as he expected. Sometimes he wondered if Tifa enjoyed the search more than actually finding the man. "Oh well. I guess I'll go then."
He listened for three more precisely calculated crashes as other doors fell under her fists, and took another sip of coffee when her pattering footsteps faded.
He looked up when the bathroom door slid open.
Cloud swiped the towel off his head and let it slide over his bare shoulders. The blond automatically reached for a mug of hot chocolate.
"Was that Tifa?"
Leon nodded.
"Hn." Cloud dropped into the seat next to him, and Leon could feel the warmth that radiated from damp skin. He squashed the urge to reach out.
But it didn't really matter.
Cloud leaned forward and stole a taste of caffeine from Leon's lips.
"Mm."
Leon closed his eyes, let the wandering lips explore down the curve of his throat.
The phone rang. Leon jerked.
"Oh Damnit." Cloud snapped his phone open, half-turning away, a scowl already forming.
Leon opened his mouth to speak, "Se- ," and his voice caught, stopping the words before his tongue could even shape them. He took a deep breath, and closed his eyes again.
The pale sensation of lips tracing his skin, sheen of blond just beyond his eyelashes. He had almost said it – almost said the wrong name.
Fear shaped the knot in his chest and he took another deep breath.
Cloud snapped his phone shut and turned back to Leon. "What's the matter?"
Leon shook his head, lowered his eyes – those blue eyes had been green to him in the scattering of sunlight through the window, and the shadows had almost eased a scar between Cloud's eyes.
"Hey. What's the matter?" Cloud was reaching out, resting his chin on the top of his head.
Squall breathed in the scent that was unfamiliar to him, a scent that was matched with Leon's, not his, and recalled a different kind of warmth.
