- Kitty Tails -

Kaiba has a thing for cats which Bakura is not.

Bakura doesn't lick himself for the purpose of cleaning and he doesn't meow and he certainly never looks up at Kaiba with large, pleading eyes. There is no white, fluffy fur coating his body, there are no whiskers and there is no tail nor have there ever been any of those things no matter how much Kaiba may amuse himself with those thoughts during long nights in his silent office at Kaiba Corp.

No, he thinks in the darkness, sitting in his over-priced leather swivel chair. Bakura is not a cat.

However…

The first night Bakura ever tried to sneak into the mansion; the timing was off as Kaiba was up in the middle of the night, pacing in the downstairs foyer and heard the minute sounds of Bakura's bare feet padding around in the next room. He immediately went to the threshold and flicked on the light switch, Bakura was hovering over the sink. They looked at each other for what probably was a full two seconds before Bakura bolted out of the window over the sink from which he had come.

That was probably the first time Kaiba had ever imagined a tail flashing behind Bakura.

On Bakura's second attempt, it was the timing which was at fault yet again. He tried a different room, a different window, this time on the second floor. Unfortunately for Bakura, he had climbed through the window that was directly over the sleeping Kaiba's bed.

One foot on Kaiba's face and that startled the brunet into a horrified bellow and startled Bakura as well, the pale-skinned yami darting right back out of the window. Kaiba had sat up and looked down to the front of the mansion and had seen Bakura land on his feet behind some hedges and then race away under the moonlight, that tail that he didn't have streaming behind him.

Much time and many attempts later, Bakura sat on the back of the leather couch in Kaiba's home office, his eyes closed but he was not asleep as Kaiba had learned. Kaiba sat at his desk and typed and read but occasionally looked up at the sleeping spirit on the back of his couch, wanting to see that tail that he never had curl up around Bakura's body.

Though, in reality, Kaiba knows Bakura is not a cat.

Still, doesn't stop him from wishing.
