Maggie Rhee cracked a smile as her bedroom door creaked open and the sleepy face of her returning husband peaked through the crack. She was on the brink of falling asleep, but wouldn't allow herself to miss the opportunity to kiss her brown-eyed lover goodnight. She rubbed her eyes, adjusting them to the small beam of light that was emitted from an old flashlight Glenn used to navigate through their home in the dark.
"Heeeey." He whispered as he stepped in, shutting their bedroom door softly behind him. He had agreed to a patrolling shift till nearly midnight, but refused to let his pregnant wife miss any rest by joining him. He could now see that she hadn't gotten a whole lot of sleep in his absence, either. Still, he felt better knowing she was safe, in bed, in their home.
"Hey you." Maggie responded sweetly, using her arm to prop herself up ever-so-slightly on the bed. Glenn pointed the flashlight in her way, the light beaming directly into her eyes. Her grin remained as she used her free arm to cover her face. "Hey, now. You trynna' blahnd me or somethin'?" she teased, slightly motioning the light away.
"Ah, sorry!" Glenn jerked the light away, awkwardly shuffling through the room, nearly tripping a few times, making his way toward the bed. "Sorry, sorry." He repeated, assuming he had disturbed her peaceful almost-slumber.
"Hush now." She smiled widely up at him, so relieved to see he had made it home okay.
"Did I wake you?"
"Not quite. Come here, now." And he obeyed. She pushed herself up into a sitting position, and he rested a knee down on the bed, leaning toward her for a kiss. Her hand met his cheek before he greeted her lips with his own. Finishing, she pulled her face only inches apart from his. "You're freezing. Get in here." She said, tugging their comforter and the quilt over it up toward her face. "It's nice and warm."
Glenn sighed as a content smile formed upon his face. "Sounds great. Sounds-"
"Glenn..."
"Hm?" And at that, she had pulled him in for another kiss, this time, tighter, stronger, and more passionate. Her arms slid down to his abdomen, where she gripped to pull him closer, allowing him to adjust to a partially laying position on top of her. He could feel the warmth she had built up while under the blankets slowly heating up his icy skin. His hands intertwined with hers, transferring her heat to him. He kicked his boots off, and it was only moments later, still wrapped up in her kiss, Glenn he felt Maggie lifting his shirt up, and off his body. The moment it was off, and now, across the room, the cold temperature of the room hit his skin like daggers. "Ah-Maggie…" he started, but with no need to finish. Without hesitation, she understood, and threw the blankets over him, pulling him down, even closer to her body under them. "I missed you" he managed in between deep kisses.
"I missed you more."
"Prove it." He breathed, in a moment of bravery. Her hands rushed to his pants, which she began working the zipper on, eagerly removing them.
Snow danced to the grounds of Alexandria that night, dusting the homes, and frosting the windows. Nearly an hour after Glenn's arrival back at his home, he rolled off of Maggie, landing next to her on his back. The clock to their left on the bedside table read "1:54 AM". Their heavy breaths turned to soft, sleepy ones. Just before dozing off, Glenn spoke.
"Maggie?"
"Yeah?"
"Merry Christmas."
"Merry Christmas, Glenn. I love you." He pressed a soft kiss to her face, and they drifted off into a peaceful sleep.
