"Haruhi? Do you mind if we talk a moment in private?" Kyoya asked her after the club had ended for the day.

"Huh? Oh, sure, Kyoya." She responded, standing and straightening her jacket before matching his brisk pace out of the room, ignoring the rest of the guys' curious stares. Her boyfriend was acting strangely, even for him, and everyone had taken notice.

They stopped a short way away from the music room. Kyoya hadn't turned to face her yet, and she suspected that he had something to tell her that he didn't want to.

"If you have something to say, just say it." She told him. Things hadn't been completely perfect between them lately, and they hadn't been out together in weeks. She knew something wasn't right.

Kyoya sighed. "My father has arranged a marriage for me with a very wealthy young woman from a very powerful family."

Haruhi stood quietly. It wasn't like she hadn't been expecting something like this. But something about Kyoya's tone made her nervous. "Okay. Did you remind him that you're already in a relationship with someone?"

"No. In fact, I accepted his arrangement." He said without any remorse, finally facing her.

"You did what?" She asked, a bit surprised by this. Kyoya had always been a defender of their relationship. What had made him change his mind so quickly?

"This relationship with this young woman offers many more opportunities than a marriage to you would, Haruhi. I mean no harm by it. This is strictly business." He said it so calmly.

"How is a relationship 'strictly business', Kyoya?" She asked indignantly.

"A relationship is for mutual benefit. I am not benefitting from my current relationship. I don't know if you are or not, but it's not beneficial to me." He explained.

"That is...that is not what a relationship is!" She exclaimed.

"Oh? Is a relationship not supposed to be mutually beneficial?" He asked her.

"Well, yes, but not the way you said it! You made it sound so robotic. As if love isn't even a part of it." She responded.

"Well, in this case, love isn't a part of it." He deadpanned. Haruhi's eyes widened in shock.

"What...what the hell are you talking about, Kyoya?" She asked.

"Love isn't a part of this. I asked you out as a matter of convenience. My father pressured me to choose a woman before he chose one for me, and you were simply the easiest and most convenient choice. Did you think I loved you like those idiots in there?" He gestured toward the music room.

She was silent for a moment. "Fine then. I don't want a loveless relationship. Go be with your pre-selected wife if that's what you want so badly."

"I wasn't asking for permission. I was simply letting you know that our relationship is over." He told her.

"And I get it! Now please, will you just go away?" Her anger burst out. And he took a step back.

"Okay, I will. I enjoyed our time together, Haruhi. It just ended up not being as beneficial as I thought it would. I'm sorry." He said, and then he put his hands in his pockets and walked away down the hallway.

"No, you're not." She said under her breath, wiped her eyes of tears that she hadn't even realized were forming, and steeled herself to walk back into the music room, not knowing what to tell everyone now that the truth had been told.
