I've decided to start doing movie reviews, starting with The Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out Of Water.
Spoilers
(duh)
Earlier today, I saw the Spongebob Movie in the theater. But in all honesty, I didn't exactly like it all that much. But, before we get to the bad stuff, let's go over the good.
For starters, the animation was absolutely beautiful. You can easily tell that a lot more time put into the animation of the movie then the twenty minute episodes. There was also an interesting plot twist, where Plankton actually helped everyone else. It was different to see him helping Spongebob, but not unwelcome in my opinion. I also like how they made the term "Author's Magic" an actual thing.
Now for the bad parts.
I have so many dislikes with this movie. I might as well just get on with these.
For starters, Mr. Krabs always thought that Spongebob was plotting with Plankton, even though he never was. There was an obvious recycled audio clip, and Sandy kinda lost it. Patric, though he has betrayed Spongebob in the past, I thought it was a little worse this time, because it was basically risking Spongebob's life. The movie used a topic that was used in an older episode's concept, time travel. While this one did do a better job at it, it was still really bad. The characters didn't even go onto land until the movie was almost over, and even then they were fighting a... pirate ship food truck? Yep.
The movie relied mostly on slapstick and potty humor to get laughs, and while it was pretty good, it was mostly show-used humor. And they got the superhero designs for Krabs and Plankton from Iron Man and Hulk respectively. All in all, if you ask me what I would rate it, I would give it a five out of ten stars.
Did you like this? Any other animated movies that I should review? Let me know in the comments!
