Author's Note:

Well this is the first fanfiction I've ever written so I'm not sure if it's that okay. The characters are all OC and I imagine the events to be quite sometime before The Infernal Devices. Something like the original owners of the London institute or that sort of thing. Do read and give me feedback! Thank you.

'Things have a way of turning out so badly. I don't think we'll ever be welcomed at the Institute again.' She sighed.

'We were only passing by, temporary guests, they were never meant to be our family anyways.' Nicholas said as his played with the mirror he held on his hand. 'We need to do what we have to do to save our own family.'

'Well it looks like we have a visitor, Fairchild. Care to open the door?' Christopher Lightwood commented and continued reading.

Someone was knocking at the door, and Mark Fairchild groaned before opening the door, revealing a dark-haired young lady carrying a suitcase. She was dressed in a simple but beautiful blue dress that showed off a figure perfectly. She was extremely pretty too, he'd noted, with large brown eyes that looked at him expectantly.

He cleared his throat and said, 'For what reason did you decide to come to this Institute? It is not often that we have guests down here.'

'You see, I am looking for my brother, sir, and I thought he might be here.' She tiptoed and looked past Mark's shoulder.

'There he is-'

Christopher Lightwood had already looked up at that point, and saw to his horror the person he had least expected to see.

'As you can see Fairchild, that is my sister … Alissa Lightwood.' He cut in, albeit awkwardly.

He got up from the armchair and got to the door. It was going to be okay, he tried to convince himself. There was nothing to worry. He'll be able to convince her to go through with this somehow.

The lady at the door, or rather Alissa Lightwood, had a brief flash of confusion on her face, before she regained the bright smile she had on her face, and invited herself in by pushing past Mark. She gave Christopher a huge hug and handed him her luggage.

'So where can I stay?'
