A/N: This little thing is inspired by the linebyline community over on LiveJournal. It gives you a line or phrase that you have to use in your writing. The phrase here was "just before the end".
I have tried my hardest to make House (it's in his voice) in-character here, and I hope it worked. Because you have to think, as important as Wilson is to House, he would probably do almost anything for him.
In either case, please review and tell me your thoughts. I love feedback!
Thanks,

You Have to Try
Just before the end of his shift in the ER, Wilson comes staggering into your office in a daze. You look up, and he meets your eyes, and then he can't stop himself; the tears start pouring down in torrents.
And your first thought is, oh crap.
As Wilson collapses onto the chair in the corner, you stand frozen. You know you should do- need to do- something, but you just can't move.
Your thoughts, as always, are flying rapid-fire. I can't do this. I've never been able to do this kind of thing. I'm awful at it. I can't do it; I can't do it.
Nevertheless, you make your legs move, taking you across the room to stand next to the chair where Wilson, your best and only friend, is still sobbing uncontrollably.
What do I do?! You think desperately. I can't do this. I'm no help at all in these situations. What do I do? What can I say? I can't do it!
But then, you realize Wilson knows all that, too. And yet he still came to you, still sought you, you of all people, out. And his faith in you gives you strength.
You put a hand on his back, awkwardly rubbing it. Please, don't let me make it worse. That's all I ask, you beg inside your head to no one in particular. Except possibly yourself.
You take a deep breath and begin to speak.
You can't do it, but you know you have to try.
