Author's note & synopsis: Slightly AU and out of sequence from the series.... So what does Brennan's latest novel reveal about herself?
Dedication
It was so easy sometimes to forget that Temperance Brennan was a best selling author. He didn't mean the fame and fortune that associated with being on the best sellers list, but rather the aspects of being an author – the eloquence of prose and the creativeness of mind.
Personally, he had been physically involved in many of cases that she described in her novels and felt the emotional pull that came with dealing with victims and their families. Yet, there was something about the way she wove her stories together that revealed a part of herself that wasn't Bones, the partner or Dr. Brennan, the forensics anthropologist. At that moment, she was Temperance Brennan. He came to realize that despite her ignorance of pop culture or her vehement stance against psychology, she wrote real emotions and situations. Her readers were forced to examine their own perspectives of life, undergoing the feelings of frustrations, sadness, happiness and empathy. The last was aim towards the faults of her characters, as well as that of her own (as the author).
He had read every one of her books in quick succession all except the last one which was published posthumously. She had dedicated it to his father, Special Agent Seeley Booth who could never forgive himself for not finding her and Dr. Hodgins in time after being captured by the Gravedigger.
The dedication spoke of the connection that she shared with her partner of almost three years in the most elemental of ways, "To Special Agent Seeley Booth, my partner in more ways than one. Together, we are the center which defies all laws of physics."
