Title: Blind
Summary: Darkness wasn't the only thing that clouded Riku's eyes. A mention of SoRiku.
Disclaimer: I had this wonderful dream that I owned the characters. Then I handed them over to the lovely Dualism, who is the most amazing writer. And, as usual, I woke up. Pity. Square Enix, Disney and all those others still own the place.

~Introduction~
{in Sora's POV}

"When I had taken off the blindfold I hadn't realized anything was different. His eyes looked a little paler and clouded, but I'd just assumed he was thinking. He never said anything contrary, though I really should have known. Riku, my best friend, my everything, was blind, and there was nothing I could do about it."

At first, it seemed like all that changed was his fighting style. He was more hesitant, cautious. He seemed to sense more that see his opponents. He was more precision-oriented, lashing out for a hit then quickly returning to a central position. There was something else, though more noticeable than all the rest. Whenever facing a 'human' opponent, Riku always pulled his punches. It was peculiar. He would seem to go all out, but at the last moment before impact, he would stop-freeze up as it were-and be more gentle. It would make Sora frown in frustration; his adorable pout Riku could no longer see but still 'feel' evident on his face, thinking Riku was trying to go easy on him. It may have had to do with the cause; It may not have.

If you asked Riku, he would shrug his shoulders and turn back to whatever he was doing. Axel said he could not stand to see himself through amber eyes, so he eventually lost sight all together. Zexion claimed it was the overexertion of trying to strain through the black folds of fabric that wore his eyes out, like trying to read in the dark. Demyx just fiddled with his sitar and explained that the light was gone from his eyes, and by the time it returned it was too late, the eyes already "fogged over".

King Mickey knew. Mickey always knew. It was a part of who he was. If anyone asks nowadays, he just gives an elusive smile with a flash of sadness behind is eyes and changes the subject. He and Riku were very close; it concerned him greatly. It was thought that he had known before Riku himself even recognized. The King had kept quiet, though, as Riku had requested. One could almost feel the pain evident in the way he stood as he watched Sora remove the blindfold Riku just as sightless as before. Not that Sora knew. Nobody knew. Just another dark secret between the two of them.

The main reason behind why he had gone blind was still a mystery and Riku kept it that way. Others began to notice, and it annoyed him to no end to be pitied or 'assisted'. He quickly showed that he was the same old Riku; nothing had changed. Maybe his physical reliance had not changed, but something /had/ changed. Something beautiful.

It was something in the way he gently held Sora's face in his hands the day it was all over, the day they stepped off the gummi ship and onto the islands together. He cupped Sora's chin in his palms, his thumbs gently caressing Sora's cheeks, his nose, his whole soft face. Tears streamed down open, sightless, turquoise eyes, as he seemed to stare straight at Sora, a small smile on his lips.

"Isn't it beautiful, Riku?"

"Yes, Sora, yes it is."

AN: This is the result of watching "Quest for Camelot" (Warner Bros.) Used to be my favorite movie. Made me wonder what it would be like if Riku was blind. This crummy piece of junk was the result. Figures ;}
