Don't leave town Part 2
This is from Chris's point of view. I wrote this because a couple of people asked if I could write this from his view so here it is. I hope you enjoy it. The ages of the characters are not the same as in the TV series. I am writing another fic that actually precedes this one. (A prequel I think they call it).
Mention of corporal punishment so if you don't like that please don't read any more. I don't own the characters, I just write about them.
Why is it little brothers don't listen, I told him not to leave town or else. I thought he'd gone to his wagon to sleep but how wrong could I be.
Three days before I had sent Ezra to Markton, a small town to the north, to collect some papers for the judge. He was now a day late. Now I'm not saying I wasn't beginning to get worried but I knew Ezra well enough. He had probably got involved in a card game.
But oh no, my little brother couldn't wait another day. He had to take off during the night. Well hope he's willing to take the consequences of his actions.
That morning Buck came to tell me Vin hadn't turned up for his duty at the jail. He was due to replace Nathan at 6. I asked him if he'd checked the wagon and he said he and JD had checked all the places Vin usually went including the roof. He must have seen the worry on my face, he told me to calm down, he was sure he was okay. He would be until I got my hands on him.
Buck tried to justify his reason for going. He 's not used to having an older brother to look after him was one. He could look after himself, had done it for years was another but I was buying none of them. You see Vin had a wanted poster out for him and although it had all been cleared up and he wasn't wanted anymore some bounty hunters would still have a copy.
He may not be used to having me look out for him but he better get used to it. And I was going to prove to him just how carefully big brothers look after their disobedient younger siblings. Dad would never forgive me if anything happened to him not just after we'd found him.
It was as I was getting ready to leave town that JD shouted that he could see two riders approaching town. That kid sure has sharp eye.
As they approached I could see how nervous Vin was. He tried to hide it but I'm sure he was remembering what I'd told him earlier. First though someone had t take care of Ezra, he had a bandage round his arm. As he dismounted I called to Nathan and Josiah to take him to the clinic. Vin still hadn't dismounted.
Buck and JD came over and I asked them to look after the horses. As Vin dismounted I told him to go to his room, he looked at me incredulously but luckily for him, didn't argue. I followed him up the stairs.
LATER THAT DAY
As I was sitting round the table later that day Vin came down stairs. He ordered some food and a drink. I could see he didn't want to join us at the table as he hadn't looked our way. I pulled out a chair and called his name. He tried to argue but a glare was enough.
I can see how painful it is for him to sit down, a belt to your backside will do that, but he's got to learn to listen to me and the others. I know he's been on his own for awhile but now he's got people to look after him and it's my job to make sure he knows the consequences of his actions.
The End
