Golden Yarn

By DJFireHawk

A/N: I read this little ficlet on DeviantArt by Blackbunty called "Spirk Spock no" in which Spock gets tangled in pink yarn and my brain spawned this little one-shot. Enjoy all.

Jim tried to comm. Spock once again and received no response. He stood from his chair and headed for the turbo lift.

"Sulu, you have the Con."

"Aye, Captain."

As the lift descended he tried not to think about what could be wrong with the Vulcan to prevent him answering his Captain. Upon arriving at the door to Spock's quarters Jim took a moment to breathe deep and settle his nerves a bit before hitting the chime button. He waited and received no answer. He tried the chime three more times before going into his own quarters and into the shared bathroom, praying that Spock didn't have that door locked. Luckily the door was unlocked and Jim entered, and promptly froze in place. He had to blink several times to make sure he wasn't seeing things.

"Spock…?"

His First Officer was thoroughly and completely wrapped up in a complicated bundle of bright golden yarn. The expression on his face was somewhere between frustrated and helpless, and Jim couldn't help but think it looked adorable.

"How exactly did you end up like this?"

Spock turned bright green as his face flushed to the tips of his ears.

"Lt. Uhura had suggested that I attempt to make something personal for you as a gift to celebrate the day of your birth. She proceeded to give me several books on various human hobbies and crafts."

He stopped speaking and Jim couldn't help the grin that broke out over his face as he knelt down next to the entangled Vulcan. When he spoke, his voice was soft and mellow with the emotion he was feeling.

"Spock…are you telling me you were trying to knit me a birthday present?"

"A scarf to be precise Captain."

Jim's grin couldn't possibly get any bigger as he leaned down to give his Spock a gentle kiss on the forehead.

"I love you too Spock."

Jim gave him another look-over.

"Now, how about we get you untangled and I can teach you how to knit a scarf without getting caught in the yarn?"

The amusement in his tone was unmistakable as he helped Spock out of the mess he got into and Spock could honestly say that he was pleased he got tangled up if it led to Jim being happy and smiling.
