"It's just not quite respectful".
Laura took off her coat, hung it on the hall stand and faced Almanzo's disapproving look. "It's Albert's choice, Almanzo, and we as a family are not sure. I'm not trying to look angry at him." Almanzo frowned. "It is not just the feeling, Laura. I dare you. If Albert wants to do it. He wants to do that".
"Almanzo," Laura interrupted, "It is a new thing for Albert and he's still young. Everyone in this family should help in whatever way they can, and it is quite acceptable now for Young Albert to train as a doctor". Laura moved in the direction of the kitchen room. "Have you fed Rose?".
"You are changing the subject," Almanzo protested as he followed her. "If you feel the need to help out with Albert you could easily become involved". Laura knew what her husband had in mind for her, and they sat down at the table together she tried to think of a way to figure out the argument. "Please accept that he is what Albert wants to do", Almanzo. "It would be good to me, I want the best for Albert. That's the best thing to do".
Almanzo gave a little shake of his head. "It might become too hard for him Manly, he might not like it," Laura said. "Plus, Albert only hears things about hospitals…".
"Oh, Laura," said Almanzo, holding Laura's hand. "You have not need to worry about Albert. I am not angry at you. You can go ask your Pa. and then we can talk about it with him."
"Even so…" Laura sighed. "I'm sure you're right. My Pa is still alive so that might help and he could talk to us about it…" Laura reached up and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "...and so very strange. You always say the right things Manly, it is for Albert's sake." Rose then made her baby noises, and Laura went to pick her up from her crib. "Who is talking about me?" said a voice in confusion. "Not my big sister." Laura looked up at her brother, came into the room. "Stop teasing, Albert". Laura said. "Everyone is talking about me becoming a doctor. And although it is a hard job to do. I'm not scared about it." said Albert.
"We are happy for you, Albert." Almanzo looks at Albert. "I'm happy for you". "One thing is first. I have to read lots of books about becoming a Doctor. I'm going to write down lots a notes but I don't have a notebook." said Albert. Helping him to a piece of fruit on the table. "I might have one," Laura said. Laura then asked Albert to hold Rose for a moment. Albert held out his arms for Rose. Rose was held cozy in his arms. "You are really good with her, Albert" Almanzo said. "Thank you," he said. Looking down at Rose, who laughed at him. Albert made a face of happiness. Laura came back into the room to a green-papered book. "Here, Pa give it to me a few months ago. I have never used it, but here" Laura took Rose back from Albert. And give him the notebook. "Thanks, Laura...Also, Pa asked you and Almanzo to come to visit sometime. Albert said. "Oh, of course, Albert. We will be there." Laura said. "We will…" Laura knew something was wrong. But he had to be true to Albert. She had to be.
