Prologue

I took a deep breath, my eyes faced the ground. No matter how many times I do this I can never shake off the feeling.

My breathing is calm, steady. My wand is secure in my hand, ready to be used at a moment's notice. The first time is always the hardest, bracing yourself to throw spells and in return receive spells; the second time isn't much better but, at least you know what to expect. The third time is the same as every time after, you're ready but in the moment before the fight, when your head is bowed towards your opponent, you can't help but wonder… Will I win? Or will I lose?

A strange hissing noise fills the air as red sparks explode out the wand of the teacher. Instantly, I tumbled to the side. A flash of orange soared past me and hit the wall on the far side of the room.

Harvey was always fond of those early openers.

"Reductobscuro!" I yell in retaliation, a blasting curse followed quickly by a conjuration. A blindfold covered Harvey's eyes, preventing him from seeing my blasting curse. Quickly, I follow this up with a sticking charm on the blind fold. Now, it was time to exploit his disability; I throw a few more spells and spell chains at him.

"Avis! Confrigoppugno!" A flock of birds burst from my want with my first spell, with my second they burst into flames and with my last they flew towards Harvey, who having been hit by my blasting curse was sitting on his arse, a thin shield protecting him.

Lazily, I sent an Expluso to break his shield; the purple light rocketed ahead of my flaming chickens and landed with a minor explosion on his translucent blue sparks flew out Harvey's wand, a sign of his surrender. Immediately, our teacher supervisor vanished the birds.

I stepped off the dueling to be greeted by Elphias.

"Another win eh, Albus? A couple more and you won't just be champion of us third years," Elphias said happily.

"A few? You think I'll be Hogwart's champion then?"

"Of course! Have you seen Ignatius? Bloke's as fat as his mum."

I walked over to Harvey, Elphias by my side.

"Good duel Ridgebit," I said, offering my hand.

"Nah, you destroyed me Dumbledore," he replied, taking my hand and shaking it.

A bell chimed; alerting students and teachers that curfew was soon.

"Comon Albus, curfews almost up, lets head back to the tower." Together with Elphias I walked up from

the great hall where we had set up the ring to Gryffindor tower.
