"LESSON IN LONELY"
Betz88
I see you sitting, hunched, alone,
The fancy cane beneath your chin.
Your thoughts, forever private.
I'm not welcome to come in.
And so, my feelings too, must hide,
And I must not intrude.
I will never let you see
I wish for us an interlude.
Your rigid posture tells my heart,
For me it is not wise
To count the years I've had to watch
The silent hurt behind your eyes.
I know you need to free yourself
From needs that I have seen,
But you can't allow a word of care
Or touch of love to come between.
So let it be and walk alone.
We have no further hills to climb.
I cannot wait another day,
My heart has not the time.
I know you can't reach out to me.
Is this what you're thinking of?
The cruelest thing I could offer you …
Is it love?
