Lara took a seat at the bar. A much-needed drink was in order after her last couple of adventures. She still missed Sam, but now all she could think about was Sofia.
Oh… Sofia.
Lara ordered a drink and sat down at the bar. That was when her attention was suddenly drawn toward another young woman. It was a woman in a red t-shirt with long dark hair. She seemed to be enjoying a beverage of her own. She watched as the woman walked towards her. Evidently she was of interest to her.
"You look like you've been through a lot," the woman said. Her accident seemed Australian.
"You could say that," Lara replied. "It's a hazard in my line of work."
"Oh? What do you do?"
"I'm an archeologist,"
"No kidding. I dabble a little bit in that myself,"
"Really,"
"Sort of, I'm a treasure hunter. The name's Chloe."
"Lara."
"Well, it's nice to meet you. I don't see a lot of women treasure hunters."
"I'm not exactly a regular treasure hunter," Lara replied.
"Oh I get it, love. Travelling the world, uncovering dangerous tombs with elaborate traps designed to kill you and trying to prevent some psycho from gaining a dangerous artifact. I know the drill."
"Really?"
"Yeah," Chloe replied. "I just came back from India with the Tusk of Ganesh."
"The Tusk of Ganesh?" Lara said. Her eyes widened.
Chloe reached into her pocket and pulled out the artifact. Lara examined it carefully.
"Where'd you find this? No one's been able to-"
"Turns out that Hoysala city was a decoy," Chloe replied.
Lara stared at the tusk. "This is incredible,"
"What do you say we find a more… comfortable place to study it?"
"I'd like that very much," Lara said with a smile.
Chloe took a deep breath as she stepped into Lara's apartment. The walls were covered in old papers—documents, newspaper clippings, maps.
"Sorry about the mess," Lara muttered. "There was this whole thing with my father and he thought he found some artifact that could grant immortality and-"
"Immortality? Sounds intriguing."
"I had to destroy it."
"Aw, shame. Well, in any case it looks cozy in here."
Chloe pulled out the tusk and handed it to Lara, who looked at it with intrigue.
"This looks genuine," Lara muttered. "I think I know a museum or two that will pay nicely for this."
"You expecting a share?"
"Hardly," Lara muttered. "I don't need the money."
Lara approached Chloe and reached out to her. Lara's hands wrapped around Chloe's waist.
"Money's not much of a problem for me. In fact it's the least of my worries."
"Oh," Chloe muttered. She wrapped her arms around Lara's neck. "I like the sound of this deal. What do you say to dinner?"
"Dinner sounds good," Lara muttered. "Let's do it!"
"I could use a place to stay," Chloe muttered.
Before she could say anything more, Lara pulled Chloe towards her and kissed her on the lips.
Chloe took a step back and paused for a moment. She then lept towards Lara and kissed her again.
"How about we go to a museum," Lara muttered. "I hear the British museum has a new exhibit on Ancient Egyptian treasures."
"Oh," Chloe muttered. "Sounds like my kind of gig. The British museum and then dinner?"
"It's a date," Lara said, with a big smile on her face as she embraced her new friend.
