What's with Jace and Ducks?

(Clary's POV)

"No No Clary! Get that thing away from me! Cassiel!"

The seraph blade lit up and Jace held it behind him in protection. I kept laughing as I kept chasing him around the Institute with the duck in my hands. I had "borrowed" the duck from Central Park and I knew how much my blondie hated ducks. He ran down the hall, looking back occasionally to make sure him and the duck were at least a good distance away. The duck gave small quacks as I ran around with it. We kept running around, going back and forth all over the huge building just for my pleasure of seeing Jace turn into a coward because of a harmless bird. I laughed so hard as I chased him I was afraid of dying of laughter. Jace had made a right turn but came into the library, where there were no other doors to escape in. I chased him to a corner and Jace turned around frightened by the duck as he held out the blade in his hand. I finally stopped laughing to speak.

"Aww c'mon Jace! Scared of a little innocent duck?"

I brought the harmless little thing closer to his face.

"Ahh!" he screamed as he covered his face and dropping the seraph blade, letting it clang on the floor. The duck gave a loud quack right in his ear.

"Yeah screw you, too, you fiend!" he snapped at the duck. He crouched closer to the corner as I laughed.

"C'mon Jace, be nice to the little ducky."

"Why should I?!"

"Cause they're innocent and harmless."

"You can never trust those things!"

"Jace!"

"No Clary, I'll never acknowledge it!"

"It's just a-Hey!" I was cut off by the duck suddenly flapping its wings all over and trying to escape me. It dragged me from one place to another, baiting me to let it go. His feet were trapped in mine as he quacked all over the place.

"No! No! You're staying here! No-Hey!" The duck gave a powerful thrust of his wings and flew out of my hands the open window in the library.

"Get back here! I'm not done scaring Jace! I said-Ahh!" I hissed and held my right wrist with my left hand. The talons of the ducks scraped my palm. I head Jace's footsteps come closer to me. He grabbed my right hand and gave an angry look at the wound.

"And this is why I hate ducks!"

"What? Besides that they're 'not trustworthy'" I said indicating quoted with my left hand.

"That and that they hurt my girlfriend," he says taking out his stele while continuing, "plus I hate them because they give my little red head bad ideas."

"That was a great idea to chase you around with that thing!"

He draws the healing rune on my hand and replies sarcastically, "Yeah sure."

"Whatever."

He finishes the last stroke of the iratz and placed his stele back in his pocket, "Done! Now don't use that hand too much today."

"Yeah a right handed girl using her left hand to eat spaghetti at the Italian restaurant for a date with her duck-prejudice blondie."

"Shut up, or you'll be the one paying for it."

"Yeah I don't care."

"Oh really?! So you wouldn't mind if I cancel our reservation now!"

He makes his way to the library door but I catch up to him and hold his arm, saying innocently, "Oh c'mon Jace, you know I was just kidding with you!"

"Even with the duck chasing?"

"Even with the duck chasing."

He stops and then smiles down at me, pecking me on the lips.

"Okay I won't cancel our reservation."

"And I won't have to pay?"

"Nope! All on me."

"At least let me pay half. I feel a little guilty."

"Alright, it's a deal."

He kisses me on the lips again.

"Seriously though what's with you and ducks?" I ask after the kiss.

"I don't know. I just don't trust them and I can't find the reason."

Alright. Done.
