Stay Alive
There were contestants
Who wanted to be the best
Their goal was to survive
As Haymitch said to Katniss "Stay alive"
Thresh thrived
Because he saved Katniss
Rue was yellow but turned blue
Because she now lives in the flowers
She was Katniss's friend throughout all hours
She taught Katniss compassion
And Gale gave Katniss passion
There was a hue of sunlit hope shining through the arena
But it took many days
And many battle cries to see the real sky.
They were trapped each death sounded like a gunshot through the heart
The walls did not part
Only the crowd watching started
Cheering and believing in, rooting for certain tributes
The tributes didn't know if they'd be put in an igloo
Or a beach
Or a toxic forest, they only knew that they reached deep sorrow.
They did not want to have to volunteer as tribute.
