Spoilers: For 2x11 Aftershocks and 2x12 Who You Really Are.
Disclaimer: I own my own responsibilities and grief not anything that belongs to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Everybody grieved in their own way. Some by punching, some by crying, some by acting out and some by simply keeping busy. But they were all hurting, there was no doubt about that. Trip had been the epitome of brightness, a helping hand whenever it was needed, a light in the darkness, always armoured with a smile and ready to tackle the world head on, he really did bring the noise and the funk with him everywhere he went. Right now, the darkness seemed to have them all overwhelmed.
From the very beginning agent Triplett had been Jemma's responsibility. She had brought him into this whole mess. Vouching for him at a time where Coulson found it hard to trust anyone. Her belief in him had paid off, everyone had come to like and depend on him, he had proven his loyalties to Shield and having him in their corner had saved them from Hydras grasp more than once.
It was clear – even to herself – that she was in chock right now, they all were, but she seemed to take it especially hard. Going on about shooting first and asking questions later, etc. it didn't sound at all like her, the old her, the one she used to be before fieldwork had consumed her life as she knew it. The once so bright-eyed and naïve scientist that she had been, who had wanted nothing more than to explore, safe lives and make great discoveries of the unknown mysteries of the universe had grown to become cold, unmerciful and relentless in the way she viewed the world. Termination had taken the place of discovery, when it came to the enigmas of the unknown.
Now at times Jemma felt all alone. It wasn't a feeling she had had many times during the last decade. She had always had Fitz there when she needed him. She had grown so accustomed to him that she had thought he'd always be there. He was still there, but now he was a step further away, just out of arms reach, and slipping farther and farther away by each passing day. They'd had small breakthroughs, most of the anger between them had dissipated, and though they still weren't able to psychically finish each other's sentences quite like they used too, they seemed to have come to an understanding where meanings didn't pass them by but intersected and formed coherent concepts.
Then this happened, and everything felt off again. It was a definite setback.
Fitz had downright lied to her. How could he ever think that she would harm Skye in any way? Did he really think of her as being that heartless? Skye was her friend, she wasn't going to put her down like a rabid dog. But that didn't mean she thought she had overreacted when it came to Raina. The thing that woman had turned into had brutally killed several of her people, all good scientists, good men, people that she had been responsible for. Why did that keep happening to her?
When everything literally crumpled around them, and she had seen him running after Skye and May, she couldn't help but feel betrayed. No matter what they did it seemed that they were doomed to be all alone, each with their own problems.
A/N: Didn't have time to proofread that well, so sorry for any mistakes.
I'm really not happy with how they're writing Jemma right now. And poor FitzSimmons seems so far away from each other. I miss season one.
