~Into The Thick Of It~

Sun shined through light pink lace curtains giving the small room a pink tint to its walls. A teen girl layed sprawled out on the small twin bed, her legs woven through the white and teal polka-dotted sheets. A phone, laying on a nearby table,
vibrated and sang a repetitive high-pitched song several times before the girl limply lifted her small hand and tapped the screen with her pastel polished index finger. She gave out a meek yawn before rising up from her bed to slide across the pale shaded carpeted floor. She walked into the bathroom, adjacent from her room, looking into the mirror after she was finished with brushing her hair and teeth. The teen had to stand on her tip-toes to see her refection looking back at her. Her dark brunette hair that matched her eyes was tied loosely into a ponytail with a straight bang she cut herself, her skin was tan reveling that she was probably of a mixed race and her face looked soft and young as if she was sixteen when she had just turned eighteen several weeks ago.
Sighing the girl walked back into her room and readied herself for her final day in her beloved home she has come to love. She turned to one of her prized possessions, a plush lion shaped like a teddy with a wild mane, and spoke softly. "Well, this is it. This is the day we move. Again." It was going to be a long day.

"-art. . .Sweetheart! Come on now, wake up Persable." When the girl opened one of her dark brown eyes she was greeted with a smile from her mother Rose. "Good you're up. Now I need you to read this map on this smartphone, you know I don't know how to work these things." She said while trying to navigate the car she was driving through the dark road, the car occasionally passing a street light randomly. "I don't even know why you convinced me to buy one." Rose said while shifting her eyes from her daughter back to the road, sighing frustratedly as she slumped back into the apricot seat. "We aren't lost are we?" The younger of the two said with a question.
"Tsk, no." The teen gave her mother a smile and a knowing glance, "Are you sure mom?" Rose shifted in her seat and looked at Persable through the side of her eye and slumped her shoulders."No. . .We're lost baby. I think I passed the exit an hour back." She tapped her hands on the driving wheel nervously as she spoke. Pulling into a closed gas station both left the car to pop their limbs and walk around a bit, the teen pulls out her phone with a baby pink case and finds that there isn't any service where she stood.
"Wonderful." Said Persable softly as she looked up to see her mother tapping on her phone with furrowed eyebrows. "Hey, can you come over here and help me figure out this thing Pers?" Rose said as she held up her phone giving it a little shake. They both smiled at each other as Persable walked to the car her mother was leaning on the teenager felt the hair on the back of her neck stand at attention when she heard what she though was a growl. She turned around timidly and was met with bushes and the light-post near the gas stations shed, letting out a breath she didn't know she was holding she shook off the feeling and tugged at the bottom hem of her white crewneck sweater, a nervous habit she developed when she was scared."Are you ok baby?" Her mother said as she noticed the nervous habit."Yeah. . .Yeah, I'm just creeped out by the dark."
Rose gave a smile to her daughter and embraced her stroking her back with her thumb."Don't worry Pers, nothing is gonna getcha' as long as I'm around. I promise."

Both started laughing as the older gave her daughter a playful punch to the shoulder. Both looked at the vibrating phone her mother placed down on the hood of the silver car as it rang. Rose answered the incoming call,"Hello?. . . Yes! Please do. Uhm. Let me see."Rose looked around the station to see if she could find the gas stations name."It's called Stop n' shop. Ok, see you soon." The teen looked at her mother with question and shifted on her heels.
"That was your grandma, she's gonna come and help us to get to her place." Said Rose as she smiled and placed a hand on her hip in satisfaction.
Persable clasped her hands together and gave a light smile. "Great! But lets wait in the car. . ."

The next day, Persable looked up into the gray cloudy skies secretly wishing she remembered to bring her umbrella. The teen walked in silence while heading to her new school, Beacon Hills High. She subconsciously fixed her bang remembering that she would like to make a good impression at her school this time around. She tugged at the bottom hem of her over-sized light pink hoodie with words 'HERO' written in white letters, she eyed herself in a buildings large window. Hoodie, black leggings, and a pair of her favorite floral boots, quickly she outstretched her arms and flashed a cute pose giggling. Persable looked up to examine her reflection and noticed that her face didn't seem like her face anymore, in fact it wasn't. A set of dark eyes were fixated on her own, dark brown hair framed a perfectly tanned face that had a grin plastered on its lips. He flashed a goofy smile tilting his head to one side, crossing his arms.
Realizing that he was probably standing there watching her Persable blushed and averted her eyes to the dirty grey sidewalk, simply because it seemed more interesting than anything else in the world to her. she clutched at her backpack strap and turned on her heels to retreat down the block, giving one last look to the building she read the sign on the glass door 'Beacon Hills Animal Clinic'. When she looked back at the window she was standing at she realized now the 'window guy' was now making the same pose she had moments before, she smiled and gave a thumbs up to the other teen. 'Well, that was embarrassing. . .' she thought smiling while continuting on to her new high school.

"Please open the door! Please! Please!" A frantic screech sounded from a hallway closet, leaning next to the door was a skinny older woman smoking a cigarette. Her face was flawed with dark spots, probably from her unhealthy habit. "Are you finished screaming yet?" she said while flicking her ashes on the wooden floor uncaring, the woman crossed her legs flipping her greasy walnut colored hair over one shoulder fixing her black tank top in the process.
"Please Jackie! Please open the door!" Said the voice on the other side of the door, the voice cracking with anxiety. "You 'ought to be happy, I'm curing you of your fear girl. Anyway, who's scared of the fucking dark anymore?" The older woman stood upright taking one last puff from her cigarette before stepping on it, she checked her grey jeans for her car keys smiling when she heard them jingling. "I'll be back, I have to go get some more smokes. You want something?" She laughed at her last words stepping into her sandals that showed off her crimson colored toes. "Jackie Please!" said the younger voice that was trapped inside the dark closet. "Right, one of those cherry sodas you like so much. I'll be back." The woman laughed dryly and exited the house briskly.

She was alone. That's all she felt, that's all she herd, that's all she saw. Tears streamed down her face as she put her small hands onto the door and gave it a light tap with her palms. She was utterly afraid, afraid no one would find her, no one would care that she was gone, no one would remember her. Another tap from her palms as she felt another wave of tears burning her eyes. "I am here. . ." She said weakly while blinking away any tears that threatened to roll down her cheeks. "I am here." Her palms came crashing down to meet the thick wood of the closet door as she exhaled a ridgid breath, her heart beat speeding up making her feel as though her chest would give out on her. "I am here!" she screamed, opening her eyes to see that she was no longer engulfed in darkness. She was in the living room, the sun was glowing radiantly throughout the whole house. She squinted as her eyes focused noticing that her living-room closet door was laid in bits across the carpet, covering her mouth with her hand she was shocked, certainly she didn't do this could she? Now she felt the pain in her hands and looking down she saw blood, red and pooling, inside the palm of her tiny hands. "Persable I'm home. I'm sorry I missed our Saturday movie, but I was working a triple an-" Rose stopped in her tracks when she saw her daughter staring at her bloodied hands. "Persable, baby are you OK?! Come with me now!" Both rushed into the kitchen, Persable giving her mother a thousand yard stare as she watched her wash the crimson liquid from her hands. Rose looked mortified, "Pers, are you OK? Please baby, look at me." The woman pleaded and placed her hand on the side of her daughters blank face. "I'm ok mama. . .I just got scared, that's all." Rose looked sternly at her daughter, she knew she was lying. "It was Jackie again wasn't it?" Persable shifted her focus to her mother, she reached out and embraced the older woman sinking her head in her shoulder. Her bloodied hands leaving a red trail where they grasped at the others uniform. The mother put her hands around her only child blinking away a tear, her eyes looked up to the ceiling she sighed. "Oh Pers, I'm here now. I'm here."
