Puella Magi Kokoro Magica
Chapter 1
The Broken Heart
"Koko-Chan!" Mika shrilled, the voice like alarm bells ringing in her ears. Kokoro frowned and turned to face the slightly older girl. "Mika! Drop the -chan. We're not little girls anymore." Mika pouted, her green eyes making the puppy dog eyes that kinda got on Kokoro's nerves. "But Koko-Chan it's what I've called you since I first met you!"
Kokoro frowned looking around at the boys who snickered and the girls that whispered. "Please Mika just drop it." She said and sighed. "Are you coming to my house tonight or not?" Mika looked at her. "I'm sorry...I meant to tell you... I have a date with Tatsuya-kun tonight. Maybe some other time?"
Kokoro forced a smile upon her face, her brown eyes meeting the other girl's green. "Sure. It's fine. I should probably catch up on Madoka tonight anyways. I'm only two episodes away from the end." Mika smiled widely. "Oh! Okay! I'll call you tonight. Bye-Bye Koko-Chan...oops...I mean Kokoro!" Mika turns away and runs towards her boyfriend, taking his hand and leaving the poor girl to stand all alone in the hallway.
~Time skip 4:30 p.m. same day~
The red head frowned as she walked home constantly checking over her shoulder making sure she was really alone. Her father was never around and her mother had recently left for a new fling, leaving the teen all alone in the apartment. Her father had left before she was even born for drugs and she had barely seen him. He only wanted to be around her when he thought it could benefit him financially. Her mother after two failed marriages had gotten into yet another relationship deciding to put her daughter behind her new lover and leave.
The only friend the girl had was Mika, but sometimes she had even doubted that since Mika had gotten that new boyfriend of hers. She was always hanging around him and Kokoro knew that Tatsuya was going to hurt Mika one day but the girl wouldn't listen. It only added to the pain she felt from the people who bullied her and teased her at school daily.
People made fun of the poor teen's height and her situation in life. She didn't want to be in this mess. Hell, she would give anything to just be taken out of it and given a new life. A happier one. One where she could be free and not be judged by others.
Kokoro sighed softly as she unlocked the door to her apartment and threw her bag down onto the floor and slumped down on the couch not even bothering to change out of her uniform. It's not like it mattered anyway, it wasn't like anyone was going to see her. She picked up the remote and turned on Netflix finding Madoka Magica and turning onto episode 10. It was the one she had left off on.
The girl watched as Homura jumped back and forth between time lines trying to save Madoka from the magical girl fate. She didn't understand. Kokoro would much rather be living in a world like that than the one she's living in now. Yes Homura's life must suck not being able to save her friend, but Kokoro's sucked even more. She would kill for any of their lives. Even Sayaka's. She took a deep breath and sighed. "I would give anything for the power to change my life..."
All of a sudden a pounding came to the door causing Kokoro to jump. She went to the door and opened it frowning. She was stunned at who she saw behind it. "M-Mika?" There stood her only friend with tears streaming down her face. "K-K-Koko-Chan!" She wailed, lunging and hugging her tightly.
Kokoro being concerned about her friend, disregarded the used of the nickname she hated with a passion. "Mika what happened? Why are you crying?" She asked as she hugged the girl tightly trying to put her own mask back on. "Ta-Ta-Ta…" The rest mixed into the gross sobs coming from the girl.
Kokoro frowned and grabbed her slightly taller friend by the shoulders and shook her. "Mika! Tell me what's wrong!" She demanded wanting to know exactly what had the girl so distraught. Mika took a few deep breaths and was finally able to string her words together into actual sentences. "Me and Tatsuya were at the diner having dinner and I stepped away to use the bathroom. When I came back a few minutes later I found him kissing Yaya Uotani!" She said and started crying again.
The shorter girl growled. "You've got to be kidding right?! It's one thing when she was only messing with me but now she's trying to hurt you?!" She said feeling the anger inside of her starting to become stronger and grow with each passing second.
Mika frowned as she watched her friends face change from one of concern to one of anger and hate. "Koko-Chan there's no reason for you to get angry. If anyone should be angry it should be me." She said worried about her friend. Typically when her friend got angry like this, something bad happened. She then looked around and noticed something. "Kokoro why are the pictures gone? What happened?"
Kokoro shook her head and looked at her. "I took them down." Mika's eyes widened. She knew that Kokoro and her mother were close so why would she ever do that...come to think of it why was her mom never here. "Koko-chan what's going on?"
"It's nothing." Kokoro said pulling on the sleeve of her sweater watching as Mika blew past her heading towards her mother's room. "What! Where are you going?" She said running after her trying to stop her before she could get to the room. Mika frowned and threw open the door to the room gasping at what she saw.
"Kokoro what's going on? Why is everything gone?" She asked worried about what was going on. There was nothing in the room besides a few little knick knacks and a vase. "Kokoro where did your mom go? She hasn't been working, now tell me the truth!" She demanded. "I'm your best friend! Tell me the truth!" She said looking at the shorter girl.
Kokoro was backed into a corner. She didn't know what to say to get out of this one. After all she couldn't tell Mika the truth about what was going on. "Shut up!" She screamed just as the vase in the room exploded into fragments and went flying around the room. Mika screamed and covered her face hoping to keep from getting cut.
Both of the girls stood there stunned. What the hell had just happened?! Kokoro started shaking slightly. "I did that didn't I?! How did I- what's going on?!" She was starting to freak out and with her new outburst of emotion a small statue of a red heart exploded. She screamed and sank down to the floor hugging her knees to her chest as she rocked back and forth.
Suddenly a voice came from the window just beside Mika. "Well, well, what a strange power." The voice said as a pair of vivid red eyes stared at Kokoro.
