I've had this story for awhile now, might as well just tell the fandom I'm not dead yet. I've made progress for the few stories I have on hiatus, not complete, but way more progress. Since I've been busy with school, you would all know how it is. And for Of The Thief, I've taken to re-writing the whole thing cause I am not satisfied with it at all. Also, Thank You would have to be discontinued, I wrote that story when I had a different mindset and took a few concepts from different other stories, so it makes me feel like I cheated(I might also re-write it if I get the motivation)
Ever wonder what happened right after Shinichi's confession in London? This is my take.
With his dead grip on her arm and a blush dusting his cheeks, he confessed with a hard, serious tone, "The heart of the girl whom one likes.. How can one accurately deduce that?!"
Her mouth hung open and time seemed to stand still as they stood near the Big Ben landmark just across the river Thames, "Eh?" She mumbled, in a daze as she soaked up his words and they stared at each other; one dead serious and the other curious and hopeful.
But then the moment was lost as Kudo Shinichi tossed Mouri Ran's arm from his grip, expelling a rapid sigh and lowering his gaze, "As for love being zero? Don't make me laugh!" He continued, lifting his head to gaze directly into Ran's dumbfounded face, "Tell the Grass Court Queen this!" He pointed at her with his forefinger, "Zero is where everything starts! Nothing would ever be born if we didn't depart from there, and nothing would ever be achieved! Tell her that!" He half-shouted in her face, the fight draining out of him as he slumped his shoulders, a heavy weight lifted. Far from perfect, he thought to himself, walking past her.
"Sh-shinichi..?" Ran called out hesitantly.
His blush returned fully, hearing her finally speak after his confession, "C-come on," he mumbled just enough so she could hear, "I'll take you back to the hotel." Turning towards her once more but keeping his gaze lowered, he grabbed her hand, encasing it in his as he strode towards the hotel they were staying at.
Still dumbfounded, all Ran could do was stare at his large hand folding over hers. She smiled a shy smile, looking away as she took a small leap to entwine their fingers together, "Thank you." She whispered enough so he could hear.
Face as red as a tomato, Shinichi slowed his pace to match hers as he braved a glance at her face, "It's only a given, you'd probably get lost if I didn't take you back." He coughed into his free hand, "...but you're welcome." He whispered back, his embarrassment evaporating as he gave her a small grin when she glanced at him. She smiled back.
The small walk was spent in pleasurable silence as the two basked in the evening warmth of London, forgetting the fact that they would have to separate soon.
As Shinichi's steps slowed in front of the hotel, he sighed, "You're here," he said softly, keeping her hand encased in his and not wanting to let go.
"Nn." Ran mumbled, lowering her gaze to the ground. "D-do you want to come in?" She asked shyly.
"Eh?" He blinked, processing her statement, I'd love to, he thought, but instead, "I can't, I still have to work on the case I'm here for." He mumbled, pathetic, Kudo, what are you doing, he thought to himself, "Sorry, Ran, I'm really sorry." He sighed, finally letting go of her hand.
Turning her back on him to hide her disappointment, she mumbled, "Oh," faking a laugh, "Of course, don't worry." Turning back towards him, she smiled, a little less genuine, a little less happy, but enough to convince him she was fine.
He frowned, nodded and started walking away. You really are pathetic.
Ran bit her lip as she stared at his retreating back, and before she can second guess herself, she shouted, "I'll keep waiting!" Tears starting to prick her eyes, she ran towards him as he turned around with an astounded look on his face, "Come back soon..." She muttered as she kept her gaze on the ground in front of him, "Just come back soon."
Unbeknownst to her, Shinichi smiled softly at her, bringing shaking hands up to cup her face, and lift her tear-streaked face to look at him. And surprising even himself, he planted a soft kiss on her forehead, "I promise." He whispered, leaning away, "No matter what."
Finally smiling, she nodded, giving him a quick hug before dashing inside the hotel from embarrassment.
Alone on the streets, Shinichi sighed, waiting a few more minutes before heading inside the hotel as well.
Omake:
Though several people have given her looks, what with the fedora and sunglasses when the sun had already set, she squealed, making sure to keep the focus of her camera on the two lovebirds, "Maybe I'll be getting grandchildren soon!" She laughed to herself, watching as Shinichi grabbed Ran's hand and dragged her away.
Making sure she was far enough that Shinichi's abnormal sixth sense doesn't sense her presence, but close enough to get a clear detailed view of their interaction, she followed, snapping pictures of two smiling geeks. She sighed, finally taking off her sunglasses, revealing deep blue eyes and a pretty face, "I wish Yuusaku could see this." she muttered, pushing her way through a couple, not minding to apologize in case she missed something.
Kudo Yukiko knew she was a bit eccentric when it came to the things she loves, but if getting labeled as half-crazy was what it took to have fun like this, she didn't mind, and as she snapped a photo of Shinichi smiling while kissing the person he loves on the forehead, she definitely didn't mind.
Nt/ I'm pretty sure Yukiko would have followed Shinichi and Ran after seeing them chasing each other during the London Arc, and she wouldn't be Yukiko if she didn't enjoy watching her son's embarrassment and hidden sweetness.
