Change in Plans
Submission for:
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry - History of Magic. Assignment 8. Prompt: Write about a Squib discovering their lack of magic.
Molly Weasley II knew exactly what she wanted to do with her life. She would go to Hogwarts, where she would take every class they offered, get O's on every single OWL and NEWT, then graduate top of her class and become the youngest Minister of Magic ever.
That all crumbled the day of her eleventh birthday.
She had expected her letter to come at breakfast. That's what had happened for her cousins, as far as she knew.
When the letter still hadn't shown up after all the breakfast dishes had been washed, she tried reasoning with herself. The owl probably just got lost. Maybe it didn't realize she was at the Burrow with her grandmum. Yes, that must be it.
She opened her presents (mostly books, including a limited edition of Hogwarts A History) and tried to ignore the hastily stifled jeers and taunts from her cousins, who had all got their letters on time.
She returned home after lunch with her parents and her sister and retreated to her room to read her new books. Her parents promised to let her know when her letter arrived.
Her mother found her as night fell, book in hand as she stared anxiously out the window, searching the skies for any sign of the owl bearing her Hogwarts letter.
Her mother sighed. "I'm sorry Molly," She said, sitting down beside her daughter. "You're not going to Hogwarts."
"What? No!" Molly protested, despite the logical part of her brain telling her that it made sense. It would explain why her letter hadn't come, why she had never done accidental magic like her cousins had. She was a Squib.
"I'm sorry, sweetheart." Her mother said.
"But… All my plans-"
"I guess you'll have to make some new plans." Her mother smiled sadly.
Molly had a new plan by the next morning. If she couldn't be the Minister of Magic, she'd become the Muggle Prime Minister instead.
