'"Hey Mustang!" "What Elric?" "We're out of leads again!" "And you're telling me this because…." "." "Huh?" "We need your help finding leads." "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! That is just rich!" "It's not funny bastard!"'

Roy remembered that day well. It was the last time he had seen his subordinate, alive. They had argued again, but this time they both walked away with smiles on their faces. Roy couldn't figure out why though. He couldn't quite place his finger on it but he still regretted that fight. Because of that fight he had not told Edward his feelings. Now he would never get the chance to.

Roy guessed that it was Fate's twisted hand at work. She felt like she was doing Roy a favor by letting their last momenhts together be happy. Now here he was again; in front of another friend's grave; another sorrow-filled good-bye to another comrade and friend. Roy had just lost his other best friend, Hughes, only months before. Now he lost his only true best friend. He had been lost since Maes had died and he didn't know if he could take another loss, yet here he was again.

He wasn't the only person who had lost a friend though. Many people knew and loved the short and energetic blonde alchemist. Everyone said that despite his short stature he had golden eyes like that of a lion. He had died in order to bring back his brother's body and he had succeeded. Too bad he wasn't here to see it though he had died the way he had wanted.

It was ironic that such a short man could accomplish such huge tasks. For that matter he wasn't even a man, he was a boy wearing a man's shoes; shoes he had died in He was a dog of the military, but more then that he was an alchemist for the people. Everyone hated state alchemists yet everyone had loved Ed. Now on this day, as they gathered in front of his grave a thought struck him. Ed had fulfilled his promise to Al and had done everything in his way, leaving behind no regrets.

Rosy smiled for some reason once again, it was a sad smile but still a smile, Ed was one of a kind. No one could ever argue that point and he could never be replaced. But even though he was gone it felt like he was still here in some ways. It's true that the office was quieter and colder but when Roy remembered the times he and Ed had laughed and joked together, even argued, in that office, it seemed happier.

People were gathered around the grave crying and whispered and sobbing sorrowful and bitter words of good-bye. It was cloudy and the sky was dark; but then the clouds parted and a single golden ray of sunlight fell on each person. In that moment Roy knew it would be ok. Ed would help him from wherever he was. When it was his turn to lay a rose on the grave, he laid the rose down and silently thanked Ed for the sighed that he was watching them. No longer was anyone crying, but rather, smiling as they left. Ed may have been gone but he was still here; and he would remain with every one of those people for the rest of their lives.
