Author's Note: It's been a very long while since I wrote anything, and I've never written for this fandom at all. It was just something that came to me on a whim and was written in one sitting. No idea if there will be more fics in the future so we'll just have to wait and see. I hope you enjoy reading!

"I don't know who I am anymore."
"I know exactly who you are... You are Dante. Nothing more and nothing less."
He knew Kat was only trying to comfort him, but fuck if he were the same person he was when all of this began. He was a goddamn Nephilim for fuck sakes. In a very short span of time, he found out who his parents were, was reunited with his twin brother, and then realized what a tremendous dick that brother really was. Damn Phineas, that old fuck, for calling it from the very beginning. Dante has half a mind to hunt the bastard down and break that artificial eye out of spite.
Dante had just really hoped that whoever took the place of Mundus wouldn't be someone like his own fucking brother. Looking back, he can now see the signs—hindsight—fucking hindsight. Maybe Vergil's intentions weren't exactly the same as Mundus's, but the bottom-line was—rule over the humans. He was so caught up in all of it and chose to ignore his brother's actions because everything was still working out fine.
Maybe it was because he didn't know Vergil very well, but then Kat... She'd believed in him, followed him, and that had been more than enough for Dante. It disgusted him to think that Vergil merely used her—played on her emotions and weaknesses to gain her trust and allegiance, and then refused to give her credit for saving both their asses and the world. It really made his blood boil just thinking about it, so now he tried not to as much as possible.
The first time he looked at himself in the mirror after Vergil disappeared, he almost didn't recognize himself. "The fuck?" But he immediately remembered what Phineas had said to him when he first gained his Devil Trigger. "If I'd known embracing my inner devil would lead to this shit, I would've held more restraint."
But Dante knew that wasn't true—Vergil would've won if he hadn't let go of his humanity; even if temporarily. Kat had brought him back, begging him to spare his brother—so he did, but that doesn't fix the number it did on his appearance. Fucking demons. He'd never been one to restrain himself anyway. Still, his new appearance was proof enough that there had been a change within him—but he keeps repeating Kat's words in his head.
You are Dante.
No matter how much change he goes through, he'll always be himself. So he decides to use everything that's happened to his advantage—with the continued help of Kat, he'll hunt down every bloodsucking demon and kill them. Being Dante means protecting humans, not from themselves, but from demons like Mundus. He may not be human himself, but he enjoys all the human vices so why the hell would he want to take all that away? He just has to make sure some dick doesn't try to exploit it again.
