Author's Notes: A poem from the perspective of Legolas and the awakening of his Sea-longing. In other words, something I scraped together in Math class while day-dreaming about certain hot elves.

Song of the Sea
On my journey far and wide
Over valleys and o'er hills
I saw it: majestic, fiercely free;
I longed for it
The Sea
The Lady Galadriel, she warned me
If I heard the gulls on the shore
Then my heart unstill under bough of tree;
I longed for it
The Sea
At Emyn Muil, her words forgotten
I travelled west to Rohan's fields
As Elven kin of the Hunters three;
I longed for it
The Sea
Back then, I had not heard it's call
Heart light, eyes bright, I came closer
Riding with the Grey Company;
I longed for it
The Sea
To battle I rode, warning forgotten
Following the King of Men
Wandering too close, unknowingly;
I longed for it
The Sea
At Pelargir, among the cries of war
I saw it, patiently waiting
More mysterious than stone or tree;
I longed for it
The Sea
With a voice, lulling and gentle
Promising of peaceful days
I heard it, calling to me;
I longed for it
The Sea
My quest was still unfinished
I left the shores behind
To places where great sorrows be;
I longed for it
The Sea
Onward, rode I to war in Gondor
But even there I could not escape
Its voice called me continuously;
I longed for it
The Sea
The Enemy's forces were too great
Darkness reigned over the lands
As I looked on, despairingly;
I longed for it
The Sea
No ray of light could break the night
And still, the war waged on
We fought on, hopelessly;
I longed for it
The Sea
A elated cry came over the lands
The Shadow was now falling
The war was won, miraculously;
I longed for it
The Sea
Darkness had fled, light had returned
A flooding of peace was on the earth
I had shown joy, but silently;
I longed for it
The Sea
The Fellowship went home to find their rest
But for me, there could be none
I stayed upon this land, defiantly;
I longed for it
The Sea
One by one, the Gift of Death
Took my friends, save one, away
The Curse of Immortality;
I longed for it
The Sea
The last King of Numenor, my friend
Has now left and so will I
My heart being called unceaselessly;
I longed for it
The Sea
One hundred and twenty years gone by
And I returned to the shore
The water, still sighing gently;
I longed for it
The Sea
A grey ship I built in Ithilien
Graceful, light and stormworthy
Stood proud, a prow of ebony;
I longed for it
The Sea
Off the Hither Shores it went
On it, my dear friend and I
Glided over Anduin, and finally;
I sailed over it
The Sea
