Arthur almost forgets where he is for a moment; he is too enthralled by the tiny person in his arms. His little son. His Llacheu. But then he remembers Gwen, his lovely, wonderful Gwen, and he turns to her. She is dripping in sweat, her faced flushed as if she were sick with fever. She is nearly unconscious, she is so exhausted, but manages the tiniest smile up at her husband.
The midwife interrupts them suddenly, but respectfully, "Sire, if you please – "
"Oh no, none of that."
"Your Highness?" she asks, bewildered.
"You have just helped give birth to our son and a prince Camelot. Speaking on behalf of my wife, you have full permission to call us Arthur and Guinevere."
Gwen made a sound of protest.
"Hm? Oh sorry, you may call her Gwen."
The midwife stood in bewilderment for a few moments before rapidly shaking her head.
"Oh no! Your Majesty, I am beyond honored, but I cannot! It has been a privilege, however…."
Arthur shook his head at her, still rocking his little son, and began to disagree with her but was interrupted by –
"ARTHUR! GWEN! HOW'S THE BABY!" Merlin barges in, hair a mess, and eyes bright with excitement, "WHAT IS - oh sorry, I'll be quieter. Is it a boy or a girl? A boy, I told you, you clot pole, I'll never understand why you doubt – yes! I can call him Chewy! I'll be back, I'll go tell the others!" he stage whispers, and suddenly he was gone, not bothering to conceal his excitement as he ran down hallways, magical sparks following him as he went, shouting, "Chewy has been born! We have a Prat Junior!"
In his wake he left a shocked midwife, a sleeping Gwen, a poor little baby, and a grinning Arthur.
"See? We didn't even tell that idiot to call us by our first names and he does it anyway. There's absolutely nothing from stopping you!"
A/N: Hiya! This is just a lil something I wrote during global – who cares about feudalism, I'm more interested in Merlin! Not the best quality work, but it's a little guy, so he's allowed to be a little messy, right? Right. Enjoy it!
And yes. I know. Not very series finale compliant.
