Oh, Brother

Summary: After the 'I love you' comment in Triangle
Author's Note: Had this story idea for a bit and finally got it out. Oh, and yes I am a wee bit excited about our favorite couple joining the reboot. Please excuse any grammar or spelling mistakes.
"Hey, Scully."
"Yes?" she replied looking into the glazed eyes of the man whose ass she had saved once again.
He stared into her eyes. They were so blue. Her fire red hair framed her tired face. His let his eyes sneak to her lips that he so vividly remembered kissing a few hours ago. Nauseous. That's what he felt.
He wanted to blurt out the words that threatened to spill from his lips. She wouldn't believe him. She slapped him after they kissed in his dream… delusion… or whatever it was. It wasn't the real Scully, but surely she represented some version of the woman that stood before him. She'd either believe him or she wouldn't.
"I love you," he said.
"Oh, brother," Scully said turning to leave. She almost turned around to look into his eyes. He had almost drowned and babbled about being on a Nazi ship. Much of what came out of his mouth was simply hallucinations. But she knew his eyes would hold the truth. Wouldn't they? She mentally shook the thought from her head. She was tired.
Mulder sighed. She made the latter choice. He watched her shake her head, her hair moving softly on her head as she moved towards the exit.
As she exited the hospital room, she glanced up seeing Walter Skinner. He was going to check on Mulder, whom he had also spent some time saving that day. Scully greeted him with a soft smile. She was grateful for Skinner; she probably always would be. No matter how insane or crazy the situation, he did what he could to help Mulder and Scully.
"How's he doing?" he asked.
"Fine I suppose... He said he loved me…" Scully said rubbing her forehead and squeezing her eyes shut attempting to give Skinner an insight on his delusional state of mind.
"Finally," she heard him mutter under his breath.
Her eyes popped open as did her mouth to respond, but she only caught a glimpse of him as he disappeared into the hospital room.
