Jemmy sorted robes and clothing in the Hogwarts laundry while her sisters Wolla, June, Cuppe, Surra, and Hộtte folded and her cousins Feddi, Sahhu, Hekki, Tuey, and Jeiu were putting together the clothes to be delivered back to the student it belonged to. Jemmy was the youngest and the youngest one always did the sorting. She was also the smallest of all her family, which wasn't fair because her cousin Hovo was three years younger and he was already taller than she was. She listened to the chatter of her sisters and cousins as they worked. They mostly ignored her after all what could a little redheaded elf know? Red hair was the most common color of hair in the House Elf world. It was usually the ones with other colors that got noticed. Like green or purple or even blue like Jeiu had. Most of her sisters had pale blonde or a few had reddish blonde that was considered a prettier color than red or orange. She sighed a little and finished up the sorting before going to get some work done upstairs.
She was sweeping a floor when she heard giggling and peeked around a corner to see what was going on. All the students should have been in bed already. She saw Ginny Weasley there with some boy. Wizards and witches were strange to her kind. They liked red hair…it wasn't as common on humans as it was House Elves. From what she'd seen it drove the boys crazy. It must from the way he was sliding his hand through her bright hair, sometimes smelling it. What did their hair smell like? And why would he be smelling it anyway? He did seem to be very interested in her hair.
Jemmy looked at a strand of her own red hair. It looked like Ginny Weasley's, but it definitely wasn't something to be fawned over. Maybe her mother was right. They were all crazy and strange and did so many weird things. Imagine, going crazy over red hair. She remembered when the girl first came to Hogwarts, no one really paid her much attention, but then again the little ones hardly ever were, it wasn't until she had grown up some that they started noticing her. Her father said it was the same when he was here. There was a couple of redheads that the boys were always after. She thought one was named Lily. Ginny Weasley reminded him of that girl. She had been uncommonly kind to all, even the house elves. She noticed them when most never noticed their existence at the castle.
The girl seemed happy with the attention. Jemmy wondered if she would be noticed like that if she was a witch. She sighed going back to her sweeping. It was useless to dream though. She was a House Elf and House Elves with red hair didn't get noticed. Not like outgoing redheaded witches.
