I stood in Jessica's huge back yard, surrounded by the group. The only person around was Harold, the mentally handicapped neighbor boy, playing in a tree.
"well," I said, "this is happening. It's happening whether we want it to or not..."
"some pep talk," Tyrone said.
"As far as we know," I continued, ignoring the comment, "we are the only humans to actively resist the yeerks." I let that sink in, then continued, "you have each been chosen for your own unique skills and/or interests. And chosen in such a way that makes each and every one of you absolutely imperative to the group. Which means we are going to be working together a lot. Which means we are probably going to end up being very close. Like friends. I realize that may be difficult for some, but I hope you try...remember, we are fighting for humanity, and everyone in this room is a human being. Brothers and sisters of humanity. So we are fighting for eachother. And with eachother. So what does everybody say?" Nathaniel Bluto was the first to stand,
"I will proudly fight for, and with, my brothers and sisters." He said, then Tyrone stood and repeated the phrase. Marcia Kim followed suit, and one by one, each one of them stood and repeated the informal oath. Then we all heard the rustling of leaves, and all turned to see the figure strolling into our midst. Harold, the supposedly mentally handicapped neighbor boy, stood tall, chest out, and said, loudly and clearly, "I will proudly fight for, and with, my brothers and sisters."
A/N: ARRGH, so terribly sorry, its really corny, I needed a segway into the next portion of my story and I was all out of ideas...they can't all be winners
