The day was an unusual one. The sky was darkened, as if it was about to rain, but not quite yet. The wind blew, but only just enough to make one question as to wear take a jacket when leaving the house. The air smelled damp, a remnant of the precipitation that had fallen earlier in the day.
A lone figure strode down a deserted road, looking for all the world like she owned it. Upon closer inspection one would a teenage girl, clad all in black, the timing working out so one would assume she was walking home from school but with one minor flaw - she carried no books, no backpack, no anything that resembled something related to education.
A pair of silver and black headphones rested around her neck, loud rock music pounding through the miniature speakers. She walked in time with the beat, stepping with the quarter notes, head nearly bopping, but not quite. The CD skipped momentarily, but the girl payed no heed to it, and instead stopped walking and stared up at the darkening sky.
This was the kind of weather she lived for, the kind when you didn't know if you could make it home or be drenched in the driving downpour that might come down upon you at any moment. Today had been a good day for her, so the consequences of her actions would be nowhere near as devastating as they could have been.
The girl smiled, a sly, cunning smile that would remind a person of the way a vampire would smile before disemboweling a particularly bothersome victim. As she did, a flash of lightning scored the sky, a streak of white among the clouds. Thunder boomed in the distance, causing her smile to become wider. With a wave of the girl's hand, rain began to fall from the swollen clouds, slowly at first, then faster and faster as time progressed.
She stood there a moment longer, allowing the driving rain to pound down on her bare head and shoulders. With another gesture, the rain slowed to a stop, leaving only the water dripping off the nearby trees as sustenance. The girl smiled again.
This was turning out to be a very good day indeed.
