Hello! This is my first ever FanFiction, so it would be great it if anybody decided to leave any comments. Well rounded critique is always appreciated! One review is enough incentive to continue editing this piece, which I wrote a long time ago.

Anyways, hope you enjoy!

It was midnight. The nightmare I just had was terrible, plagued by hideous winged creatures and asphyxiating ground holes down which they pulled me. Deeper the took me, and the less I could breathe. Deeper and deeper until I thought I would pass out and I had no choice but to wake up.

I sat straight in my big fluffy bed, gasping and fighting the urge to scream.

"Leo?" I whispered. "Leo, are you awake?"

I couldn't see anything in the dark. I knew that darkness well, but it never failed to send shivers up my spine and chills down my arms. I wasn't worried, though; I knew the way from my bed to Leo's by heart.

I took a tentative step and made sure I was facing the right direction.

Ten big steps to cross the room, five small to my right to reach the bed, I thought to myself. Any shivers or chills disappeared the second I touched that silk of his sheets.

"Leo," I whispered again.

I climbed in the bed to feel the mattress and see if Leo was there. Leo was the only who was allowed to have a candle next to his bed, but he had secretly shown me how light it. When I couldn't find him, I extended my shaking fingers towards the bedside table and lit the candle. The flame slowly came to life, and, just as slowly, I turned around.

I expected to find Leo sleeping peacefully on his bed, farther away of the area I had felt, or to find him at the foot of his bed after a night of relentless sifting around. I thought he might be at the other side of his bed, having fallen down, or perhaps under the bed, waiting to spook me.

What I didn't expect was to find him missing.
