Squeamishness

I'm not scared

I'm not scared. I'm not scared. I'm not scared. I'm not scared. I'm not!!

No, I'm not in battle…

I'm watching an r-rated horror film with my superior officer, Colonel Roy Mustang on Halloween.

And I'm not scared.

Nauseous is more the word. Yeah. Definitely 'nauseous'. Feeling my stomach lurch violently, I tore my eyes away from the screen and buried my face in his shoulder. Roy only chuckled lightly.

"My Goodness, Roy!! How can you take any actual enjoyment from watching this gore?! It's horrible!!" I cried, when I finally trusted myself to speak.

"Oh believe me, Riza, I'm far less interested in the movie than I am in the way you launch yourself into my arms everything someone gets murdered," Roy replied cockily and I felt a bright red blush taking up residence on my face.

"That," I told him stiffly, "is a gross exaggeration!!"

"Hardly!"

"AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!"

"CHLOE!!"

"RICHARD, HELP ME!!"

SLASHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

"NO!! RICHARD!! DON'T LEAVE ME!!"

I hid my eyes again as blood splattered across the screen. "How can a soldier like yourself watch this without feeling ill!" I cried but I was to receive no reply. "Oh, God… he's going after the woman in the shower now… Roy, I swear to God that I will never ever let go of you if you just turn the movie off now!!"

The movie immediately switched off and I made to stand up and get a drink but his arms were suddenly firm around me. "Roy, I have to get up," I said, a little unnerved.

"Except that you just swore that you never would," said Roy happily.

Urgh, trust him to actual take me seriously… I'd be mean if I didn't indulge him for just a little bit, wouldn't I…? With a small sigh, I settled myself into his arms and he smiled down at me.

"There's my girl."

I rolled my eyes and made myself comfortable against his side. Without the noise of the movie, it seemed oddly silent- empty.

"Permission to get up and turn on the radio, sir?" I asked.

"Permission granted," he replied, quietly amused, and I did so before settling back down in his arms, now accompanied by soft, sweet mood music courtesy of DJ Sally on station 1-0-6-point-5.

As the night drew on, we were mostly silent and when we spoke it was only little things on our minds. Not to say that we were awkward- quite the opposite really. I've never felt more comfortable with anyone than I have with him. More, there was nothing to say that couldn't be expressed without words. We were completely in tune with one another, completely in sync- like two halves of a whole.

Hmm, that was it exactly. Two halves of a whole.

"Roy…?"

"Yeah, Riza?"

His smile made me want to melt, and already I could feel the power of speech failing me…

"Happy Halloween," I managed eventually.

And my other half, knowing and understanding everything about me, replied with a smile, "I love you too."

I shook my head and laughed softly at that. The fool. He was in no danger of me leaving him that night. No danger at all.
