Hmm...this was meant to be a drabble. I guess it's a 500-ish word drabble? :shrugs: Yeah, sure. Anyhoo, I love Yue and Sokka. Their story is so tragic...I feel like Yue doesn't get enough love. What she did was brave and heroic, and this is my tribute to her. Hope you all like it. ^-^
"You have been touched by the Moon Spirit."
I watched her eyes flutter open at his voice, silently admiring how they glistened even without any moonlight. "Some of its life is in you."
She shifted to face him, a thoughtful sigh escaping her lips. "Yes, you're right." Her gaze gracefully moved to the sky, where there was once a soft glow from the moon shining down.
"It gave me life." She closed her eyes for a moment, before raising her face to show us her newfound hope. "Maybe I can give it back."
I pushed myself off the ground when she stood up, and I took her hand protectively. "No!" My sister sat behind the Fire Nation general, quietly observing us with a tear-stained face.
"You don't have to do that." She refused to look at me, though my voice beckoned her to. "It's my duty, Sokka."
My breath was shaky as I was trying to maintain my composure. "I won't let you." I allowed my grip to tighten. I gently tugged on her hand in an attempt to bring her back to stand next to me; to let me keep anything unpleasent from ever reaching her."You're father told me to protect you."
"I have to do this." She took a deep breath and pulled her hand from mine.
I did nothing as she set her elegant hands on the spirit's unmoving body. A dim glow illuminated her features for a second as she closed her eyes. She moaned softly as she collapsed, I prevented her from hitting the grass. "No!"
She fell into my arms, limp. I had been yearning for her to be this close to me, but now I just couldn't hold my tears any longer. "She's gone." My hand stroked her cheek as I felt her heart stop beating and her breath cease.
"She's gone..." I buried my face into her neck, sobbing as I hugged her body against my embrace.
Behind me, I heard two gasps; and I opened my eyes. She was disappearing, fading away from me even more. My hands reached for where she had previously been, but now there was nothing there but the faint smell of the ocean.
I turned my head to see the coi fish flop back to life, and fly right out of the man's grasp. It splashed into the pond and re-joined its partner in the eternal dance.
The water lit up, then the light formed itself into the shape of a girl. No - woman.
Her nearly transparent eyes were sad, sparkling with tears. I stared up at her in disbelief, getting the chills when she spoke. "Good-bye, Sokka." Her voice echoed through the oasis, a sound I somehow knew I would not hear again until the day I died.
"I will always be with you..." She floated closer to me, her fingertips brushing the sides of my face. Our lips touched, and I closed my eyes as I returned the gesture.
I felt her warm lips leave mine, and I opened my eyes to find that she had once again left me.
Though, when I looked up into the sky; I saw the moon had returned, and felt its dim light embrace me.
I felt as though she was with me.
...Yue.
Disclaimer: I do not own Sokka, Princess Yue, Katara, or General Iroh. OR the dialogue, in case you couldn't tell, that came from the episode. :)
