Adam was lying on his bed in the middle of the summer once again. He was back at camp, in his cabon with his brothers and sisters. He knew that some kids didn't view their cabin mates as brothers or sisters, more like long lost cousins or far away family, but not Adam because they were the closest he would ever have to family. Adam knew his away around camp so well because he had lived here for as long as he could remember. Then he remembered he was 13 today, so he shot out of bed, only to realise the sun was only just rising.
Adam took his time getting dressed and left the Hephaestus cabin just as the conch horn blew. He was always an early raiser, so he was used to getting to the Mess Hall first. He made his way across the green field quite happily, as Adam got to the mess hall entrance he saw Chiron standing there waiting for him. "Happy birthday, Adam. How are you today?" said Chiron with a big grin on his face. "I'm good thank you." Adam replied smiling.
Adam went inside and found his usual seat, when he sat down no one else was in the room. But when he looked up he found himslef looking at a mysterious man sitting next to him, covered in tattered and burnt robes, the man also had a big black beard. Chiron poked hs head through the door and said in a respectful and familiar tone " I will keep the other children out so you can talk with the boy." Thoughts ran through Adam's mind and he slowly came to the realisation that this man was his father. "Thank you Chiron" replied Hephaestus with a booming voice.
Hephaestus discarded of his robes and looked at his son with his big reddish eyes. What they say about Hephaestus was true he was ugly and scarred. The God brought up an object wrapped in cloth. "Gods aren't ormally supposed to do this but seeing as its your birhtday and you will probably need some help in times to come then I have broken dome rules to give you this present." he said grinning like a child. Adam hastily un-ravelled the cloth and picked up the spear inside. It was was great and had black with a gold bottom and a gold blade on top. Adam jumped up, turned and spun it in his hand, he tried a few practise jabs to get the feel of it. "Thanks da..." he noticed Hephaestus was gone.
Adam felt a burning sensation on the staff. It said in red hot letters "Do not expect more help this is all you will be given." The letters then faded and came back just as bright "Good luck and be careful, my son."
