Gumball would make sure to tell his parents what had happened in the morning.
In the mean time he planned on enjoying every second of his special alone time with his best friend. Anais wouldn't be a problem he'd have to deal with, not with all of the sleeping pills he mixed in with the glass of warm milk he had given her before she fell asleep and Darwin was in no position to protest, not when his arms and legs were restrained with rope.
"It's alright my dear." Gumball whispered into what he assumed was Darwin's ear as the fish stared at him with a look of terror in his eyes as his skin started to become noticeable paler.
"Please…don't…" Darwin attempted to communicate with the crazed blue cat-creature standing over him, not being able to finish the last part of his sentence because he was silenced by Gumball's paw covering his mouth.
"Don't speak my dear." Gumball said to his friend with a smile that he had hoped would calm his dying friend as he attempted to extract some sort of sick feeling of enjoyment from what would be their last moment together.
Darwin had started coughing up blood earlier that day while he and his beloved fish were at school and Gumball had immediately assumed the worst. Nicole had agreed to take Darwin to either a hospital or a veterinarian tomorrow before she went to work but Gumball was sure that by then it would be too late. He didn't want his brother and best friend to die, at least not without spending just a little more time with him.
He had resisted at first, all he seemed to want to do that night was sleep, but Gumball was persistent. He snuck out into the shed in their backyard while Darwin slept in his fishbowl and when he re-entered his room he had more enough rope to bind the fish to his bed. Tying the fish to his bed was easy, Darwin was sick after all so he didn't put up much of a fight. The next stage of the plan, making sure that Darwin enjoyed their last moments together as much as he did was proving to be much more difficult.
"I…Need…" Darwin attempted to say before being interrupted by Gumball.
"What is it Darwin what do you need?" Gumball asked before hugging the trapped fish.
"Do you need love? I can give you as much love as you need." Gumball said as he gave the fish a squeeze. Darwin simply responded by shaking his head.
"…Water." Darwin choked out before he began coughing out a little bit of blood onto Gumball's sweater. Gumball, being the kind and caring cat that he was refused to get upset at him for ruining his favorite garment. But, he couldn't leave the fish alone after all, what if died while he was fetching him a glass of water. What if he escaped while Gumball untied him to place him back in his fishbowl?
"I'm sorry buddy." Gumball said with a smile as he nuzzled his beloved fish. "But I can't do that."
Darwin started coughing again, and Gumball responded by holding onto his friend just a little tighter. He continued nuzzling and whispering what he believed to be soothing words as the fish continued to cough. Eventually the fish stopped coughing, the fish stopped struggling and the fish stopped breathing altogether.
Gumball was heartbroken at the death of his friend, he yawned and looked at the time. Realizing how late it was he decided that he should attempt to sleep. He moved the body of his beloved fish to the side of the bed and crawled underneath the covers beside his friend.
