A/N: Here's a random poem I wrote with Tess and Shane in mind. It's from Tess's point of view comparing herself to the "old" Shane and how he's different because of Mitchie and how Tess believes they would have been better together. It's someone Tess/Shane, but as I am a Smitchie fan mostly, it's still kinda one-sided. Anyway, enjoy! R&R! Thanks! –Mac

We Were The Same
We weren't so different, you and I
We played games, and didn't know why
We hid behind the masks we wear
There's not much we liked to share
And though we were one and the same
We had a different claim to fame
You were the leading man, so sure
While I'm the one who can't endure
I'm not my own, I let them lead
While such instruction you didn't need
You paved your own way, weaved your path
While I have no say, succumb to my mother's wrath
You were under the spotlight, bathed in gold
While under pressure, I tend to fold
You hid behind wild nights and attitude
I hide behind sass and false gratitude
We've both felt alone, I know
But we never, never, let it show
But now you've found someone to change it all
While I, I just continue to spin and fall
She's changed you, hasn't she?
But I can't change, don't you see?
We were the same once, but you didn't stay
But what can I do, what can I say
She has gone and stolen that heart of yours
And with that, for you, she's opened more doors
While I continue to wallow away in my empty room
Unwilling to even try to fight away the gloom
We were the same and could have been great
But you've been taken from me by a twist of fate
So while you and her go off toward your fairytale end
I am tortured with a broken heart that does not mend
I stand alone with not one ally
We're so different, you and I
