Beaten

At age six, a certain little girl runs for her life. She runs from a monster. She runs from the woman who birthed her. Massie runs as fast as her little feet can carry her, stumbling and tripping; weaving in and out of rooms and past furniture. She has to run. Soon, she tires and slows, and her mother gets her. Her mother viciously hits her and batters her frail six year old body, leaving her daughter screaming in pain and shrieking. She doesn't stop. Finally, the girl's father comes in and tries to stop the mother. After, the girl is still crying and sobbing uncontrollably. Her father first tries to console her, then harshly reprimands her for not being obedient. All the while, Massie's 13-year old sister Janice is listening upstairs; hidden behind the grand staircase. She wince and grimaces while hearing her little sister's shrieks and cries of agony. Tears cut silent trails down her cheeks as she shakes with anger.

She wants to run to her mother say, "WHAT KIND OF DECENT HUMAN BEING ARE YOU?! SHE'S FUCKING SIX YEARS OLD! YOU MONSTER! WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS?! THIS IS CHILD ABUSE! YOU CAN GET ARRESTED FOR THIS YOU FUCKING BITCH! WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU?!" But she doesn't, or she'll be next. Then she wants to confront her father and yell, "YOU ASSHOLE! SHE'S SIX YEARS OLD! SHE WAS BEING ABUSED, AND YOU DIDN'T LIFT A FINGER TO HELP YOUR OWN DAUGHTER! WHAT KIND OF DESPICABLE VILE SHIT ARE YOU?!" And she does. When she is done screaming at her father, her father cries and bows his head in shame. Janice glares at him hatefully, anger searing her eyes.

Janice can hear the tinkling sounds of the piano, and occasional wails. Her mother was about to beat her little sister to death because her sister didn't want to practice her piano. Such a petty reason for such a cruel action.

At school, Massie's classmates all silently wonder why this beautiful little girl's skin is bruised; black and blue. During recess while she is alone by the swings, a certain blonde-haired boy with big brown eyes runs up to her and asks why her skin is so bruised. Massie breaks down and cries.

When she gets home, she tells her sister all about it, how the kids were wondering. She cries, something that she's been doing an awful lot. Years pass, and Janice is now in high school. Massie is still beaten. One day, where the mother almost threw Massie out of the house and beat Massie so badly that Massie limped for the rest of the week, Janice called the police.

In the peace of night, the mother was arrested. She hatefully shouted death threats at Janice, knowing she was the one who had saved Massie. Massie, now in seventh grade, runs up to Janice like a little girl and throws her arms around her, beginning to cry. But this time, these are tears of happiness.
