"YES!" I screamed, "YES!" I jumped up and down, screaming at the top of my lungs.
She had won! My sister had won! Renat was coming home!
"RENAT!" My mother and I hugged each other, my father laughing his deep, booming laugh. We were all dancing around the living room, giggling and screaming with joy. She won! She won! She won, she won, shewonshewonshewonshewon! I twirled, my feet digging into the worn-out carpet.
She was coming home! She kept her promise! She was going to be able to be my bridesmaid; care for her godchildren we have been fanaticizing about since we were nine. She was going to hold my hand as we rocked, old ladies, in our wooden rocking chairs.
I couldn't believe it. Renat was coming home. I was terrified that there was a mistake. I had miscalculated the number of people that had died. But I didn't! There was the hovercraft! SHE WAS COMING HOME!
I jumped around, hugging my cat, Hyah, swinging her around and-
I woke up to the cold midnight air. I had kicked all the covers off me, and I was freezing. But my heart was colder than my body. Because Renat wasn't coming home. She had died a year ago today.
