Prologue:

Edward Elric opened his eyes and looked up as he heard a voice, no, voices, say, "We have a proposal for you Edward Elric, Full Metal Alchemist." In front of the Full Metal stood the Gate of Alchemy, or The Gate of Truth, in all its glory. Ed could only stare for a moment before shaking his head and asking, "What kind of proposal?" The last thing the Full Metal could remember was getting Al's body back and then he had seemed to appear here, not good in his opinion.

The Gate would have grinned if it could have, "We would like you to become our Harbinger, The being that will bring order to a world we were charged with watching. We have come to the conclusion that we will have to interfere now that things have descended so far into a near irrepairable state, we will not send you there without giving you payment for your services of course, our law of Equivalent Exchange still stands in the deals we make." Ed nodded his head in understanding, that law had been prevalent throughout his life and history, but he needed to know what he was getting and what he was to do. "What am I receiving and what is my job in this so called World I'm being sent to?"

The Gate decided that the Full Metal was going to be hard to manipulate but he was the strongest of its current candidates, "you will be gifted with the abilities of the former Homunculi Envy, a sword made of Adamantium, you will given other gifts throughout your adventure." The Gate could have chuckled at its own deviousness, it had neglected to mention that by entering into this contract he would become immortal and be bound to the Gate for all eternity, this would allow Ed to break the Laws of Alchemy if he so desired.

Ed closed his eye in thought, the ability to shape-shift would be useful, and from what I know of Envy, I would be able to shift into any form as long as it was a living breathing creature... Ed stopped for a moment as the weight of that ability would put on him should anybody ever find out, he shuddered and then grinned, he could correct his height. The sword he was being given wouldn't be a problem to learn to use, as he already knew basic swordsmanship. "I think we have a deal, now can this get done and over with as quickly as possible?"

The Gate really wanted to laugh sinisterly at how well its plan had worked out so far, however it could not so it merely had to settle for speaking. "Yes, merely step through," here the Gate itself opened up and black tendril like hands began reaching out toward Ed, "and the contract will be complete." As Ed approached the Gate and was about to step through the Gate chose to add a little insurance and upgraded Ed's Auto-mail limbs to an indestructible metal that not even it could name. The metal itself was black and seemed to absorb light, though this went un-noticed to Ed as he stil had on his usual black boots, pants, and shirt, over that he wore his red coat and white gloves with transmutation circles on the back. The Full Metal fully stepped through the Gate a second later and the Gate itself would have grinned wickedly if it was capable of doing so, so far the plan was going accordingly.
