Don't Forget

Summary: Dean thought they were just going on another hunt, but he was in for a surprise.

Sam set his cell phone down on the bed stand, next to the cheap hotel stationary. Just as he did this, his older brother came inside.

Sam looked up, "Hey, Dean. I just got a call from Ellen, she's got a case for us."

Dean looked at his younger brother, "Yeah, what's that?"

"I don't know, she said she'd fill us in when we got to the Road House," Sam replied.

"Okay then, what are we waiting for? Let's go."

"We have to sleep. You, for one, are running on red bull and beef jerky."

"Nothin' wrong with that," Dean set a newspaper down on the bed closest to the door, it read January 23, 2007.

"You may be the older brother here, but you aren't always right. We can head out in the morning. I'm sure if there was any reason to hurry, she would have told me about the case over the phone."

Dean shrugged, "Alright."

--

"Hey, pull over, I have to go to the bathroom," Sam asked.

"Dude, we were just at the gas station 20 minutes ago."

"Well, I didn't have to go then. I do now."

Dean looked at his little brother, "You're such a girl."

"Yeah, yeah."

Dean pulled off the highway and stopped at the first gas station he saw.

"Hurry up, Samantha," Sam heard his brother shout as he walked into the Speedway.

When he got in the bathroom he pulled out his cell phone and made a call.

"Hey...yeah, he has no idea...I'm in the bathroom at a gas station. No, he's in the car. We won't be early." Sam closed his cell phone and put it back in his pocket before making his way back to the car.

"Took you long enough, Sammy," Dean started the car again.

--

The parking lot to the Road House was empty, which was odd at 9 o'clock at night.

Dean parked the car but couldn't help it, he felt like there was something off about this.

"Sammy, this isn't looking good. Do you think maybe something's happened to Ellen?" Dean was suspicious.

"Nah, she probably just didn't want other hunters here after the whole Gordon thing," Sam got out of the car.

"Maybe."

The two brothers cautiously walked up to the front door of the Road House.

"Hey, maybe we should go around back," Dean stopped his brother.

"How about I go around back, you go in through the front. That way we've got both ends covered."

Dean nodded, "Sounds good."

He waited until Sam was out of his sight before opening the door, gun in hand.

"Surprise!" shouted a group of people. The lights flipped on.

Dean jumped back, "You are so lucky this gun isn't loaded. What is this?"

"Your birthday," Jo smiled.

"What?"

Sam came through the group of people, "January 24th."

"Dude, I totally forgot."

"Luckily, I didn't, or else you wouldn't be eating cake," Sam motioned toward the bar.

"And don't forget presents. Albeit, they aren't the presents that most 28-year-olds want," Ellen said.

"Wow, thank you," Dean smirked and looked at Jo. "So what'd you get me?"

She rolled her eyes and laughed, "Yeah right, maybe next year."

"Well, who wants cake?" Dean went over to the bar. He couldn't remember the last time he'd had a birthday cake.

Ellen lit the candles and he blew them out.

His wish? That this wouldn't be his last normal birthday.

Author's Note-

I wanted to write something about Dean's birthday. And it was a lot of fun to write, although it took me a really long time! I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Leave a review and let me know what you thought, thanks.
