"Where are we going?" A panicked voice sounded.

"Don't worry, we can stop soon." Out of breath the other responded shortly.

The pair of silhouetted figures navigated their way through a labyrinth of alleyways and wet side streets. Their footsteps splashing on the grey puddles that gathered on the cement and dirt. As the pair, hand-in-hand, crossed a backstreet in between two large stone buildings their shadows caught the eye of a Death Eater.

The grisly man cloaked in black turned and peered down the alley, a sharp eye detecting the quick movement of the hunted one.

The girl pulled on the cloak of her companion; pulling him into the shadow of the building.

"Regulus!" She whispered harshly.

"Addie we can't-." Regulus was cut off by Addie's hand on his mouth.

"He's out there, I saw him." She said in an undertone in his ear, trepidation laced her voice.

Regulus looked down at her shaded face; moonlight showing the glitter of tears in her eyes and the drizzle of rain plastering her hair to her gentle features. She knew. He knew.

This was the end. He was caught, cornered, and there was no way out. They knew where he was and he couldn't escape. Footsteps.

"He's coming…" Addie was shaking.

"Let's go." Regulus pulled on her hand and they once again took off, buying a minute.

The pair took the first left and continued down the dreary streets of the city to the quieter part of town. For five minutes they sprinted until they came upon an old children's playground. The rusted black gate was open ajar and the two slipped in without a second thought.

A decaying slide, rotted benches, and mangled swings. Regulus and Addie passed them, instead reaching the area enclosed by lofty maples.

They panted; winded. Addie collapsed, she sunk to her knees and her shoulders trembled yet she remained silent.

"Addie…" Regulus gathered her in an embrace. "This is all my fault, and I'm sorry you have to go through this."

Regulus was taken aback when Addie lifted her head; eyes blazing.

"What am I going to do? I can't do this by myself. I need you, Reg."

"I'm sorry." He muttered and closed his eyes, pressing his forehead against hers.

The gate creaked open, a sickening sound.

Regulus' eyes snapped open.

"Addie, take this for me. And promise you'll keep it safe." He pulled out a locket and placed it in her hand. She stared at it for a moment.

"I will." She answered reluctantly. This was defeat; there was nothing to be done.

The scrapping of metal was heard. Swings moving back and forth.

"I love you Addie." He brought his lips to hers, a gentle kiss; a loving kiss.

"I'll always love you Regulus." She said when they parted. And then she ran.

With locket grasped in her hand Addie Grey ran to the other side of the playground hoping to get far away before she saw it, before she heard it, before she felt it.

That green light, those two words, that instant void.
