It was a cold November midnight. In a city in California, the sun had long since set. In a certain house in the suburbs, two seventeen-year-old boys hadn't quite yet noticed. One, whose name was Jeff, had brought an extra TV over with him, and the two were doing what teenagers do: multitasking. The other, Zach, had subscribed to an anime channel, and the anime Lucky Star played on one of the TVs. On the other TV, he had hooked up his games… the two were playing a shooter. One had over twelve kills in the round… the other had surpassed even that.
One of the two teenagers had short dark brown hair and green eyes. He was about five and a half feet tall and only weighed 135lbs. The other had slightly longer hair and blue eyes, and stood nearly half a foot taller than the first. However, he weighed the same.
"Hah, did you see that Jeff? Only my third ever kill with the defibrillator!" Zach was exulting in his latest kill. Jeff was a bit calmer. He kept attention and shot an enemy behind Zach.
"Zach, you've got to watch out behind you! I don't know how you get so many kills when you're so lax… sometimes I envy your luck."
Zach simply smirked and proceeded to enter a building. He was about to knife a sniper when his character suddenly froze.
"Huh? Oh no, my controller's dying…"
Unfortunately for Zach, the sniper had turned around and saw him. He was dead within two seconds. Jeff was slightly luckier: it was only after he shot the sniper that his character froze as well.
Jeff looked over his shoulder and gazed at the TV showing Lucky Star, and then turned his attention back to Zach, who was fiddling with his controller.
"Well Zach, this is what happens when you forget to charge the batteries."
Zach quickly replied, "But I did charge them! We've just been playing for too long! Well, nothing we can do now. Let's just turn this off and watch Lucky Star instead…"
Jeff yawned. "You sure? I'm really feeling sleepy, man."
Zach smirked. People said that someday someone would get genuinely annoyed at that smirk and hurt him for it. Hadn't happened yet.
"Wimp. Come on, just one episode. Hopefully you can stay awake for that long."
Jeff reluctantly agreed. "Fine, fine."
Jeff propped himself up and let out a big yawn. He lazily walked to the game system and switched it off. During this time, Zach stole the spot that Jeff was going to lay down at, so Jeff smiled and let out a sigh.
"So gay..."
Jeff snatched his pillow playfully away from his original spot and laid on the floor, gazing at the credits of the Lucky Star episode, waiting for the next one. With heavy eyelids, Jeff started to think that he was going to succumb first so he looked up. Zach was staring at the TV not paying any attention to anything else.
So, Jeff just moved his head in a comfortable position with his arm behind his head and stared at the TV emotionless. His eyelids got heavier by the second. The credits were over but Jeff was too tried to notice, as it was already midnight. As the second episode began, Jeff's head fell to the side.
As the introduction ended and the other episode began to play, Jeff's eyes began to fall. Zach didn't notice, but his eyes were getting heavy as well. About midway through the episode they both fell asleep… Jeff being the first one to go.
