HOW THEY MET

She got outta the car. Her face was straight - without any sign of emotion. She slammed the car door shut and passed a few cops who were talking. Her dark brown hair hang over her shoulders and her dark eyes searched for someone familiar.

"Excuse me, Miss. Can you tell me anything about it, please? Please, I gotta know. Do you know who killed him? Do you know what exactly happened?" A blonde woman stopped her. Her eyes were already lightly swollen from all the crying. She looked so broken and it really touched Monica in a way.

"I'm sorry I cant – I just arrived." Monica Reyes answered as softly as she could.

That must be the mother of the murdered boy. She looked exhausted. Monica hated such crimes – crimes with children. But where was the father? Why didn't he stay with his wife and supported her? She looked like she'd break down any second.

"Ugh Officer Smith, could you have an eye on the mother?" Monica asked quietly as she passed some Officer. He nodded in agreement.

Monica nodded, thankfully and saw a little crowd in front of the dead body of the boy. The boy's body was covered with a white cover. Officers where there and took photos of the crime scene and looked for possible evidences. She knew them all. But suddenly she noticed a man she had never seen before. He wasn't in her team but he stood there like he was one of them. She walked towards him.

"Excuse me, Sir." Monica said and the man turned around, looking at her. The man had brown hair, blue eyes and must be in his 30s. He looked so exhausted and hurt.

"Who are you?" Monica asked him carefully.

He swallowed hard before he answered. "I'm Luke's father. How could I let that happen?" He asked. He looked like as if he'd start crying any minute again.

He was the father of the murdered boy.

"Sir you aren't supposed to be here. Please go behind the bars, will you?" She said demanded but softly. How could the other Officers let the father this close to the boy? They must be insane!

"No." he said with a strong voice.

"Pardon?" She asked surprised since she expected him to do what she had said.

He got outta his jacket pocket his badge and showed it to her before he put it back in his pocket.

He was Special Agent for the FBI, like herself.

Monica grabbed his arm gently but firm. "Please come. Don't torture yourself any longer Agent Doggett." She said and pulled him lightly with her. He obeyed and walked with her behind the bars.

"I'm Special Agent Monica Reyes and I am working for the FBI as well. I am on this case and I promise I will solve it, okay?" She said and looked into his blue eyes.

He nodded and his wife, Barbara, walked to him – still crying.

Monica turned and walked to the crime scene again. She felt so sorry for Agent Doggett and his wife. She knew words wouldn't really help them – the only way she could help was finding the murderer of their son.
