"Sit boy!"
WHAM! InuYasha cringed as his face was slammed into the dirt, creating a rather large crater in the earth. What had he done this time? All he had said was that there were plenty of other girls who were prettier than Kagome... which, in retrospect, might have in insulted her. But he'd be damned if he was going to apologize!
Kagome stalked away, and the half-demon quickly hurried after her. "Wait! Kagome!" He called after her, but was ignored by the ticked-off teenager.
The two were watched by Shippou, Miroku, Sango and Kirara, who were seated around the campfire, eating breakfast. None of them seemed very eager to end the fight, especially since it made great early-morning entertainment. Miroku sipped his tea as the four of them watched Kagome and Inuyasha disappear from sight.
"When will InuYasha learn?" He asked rhetorically. "You would think that all those 'sits' would have drummed it into his head by now."
"I guess he's just one for hard lessons." Shippou said.
Meanwhile...
"Come on Kagome!" InuYasha called out as he followed her through the forest. "Kagome!"
Good grief, that girl was good at ignoring him. He had been chasing her for a good ten minutes now (a record for someone with his short-fuse temper), and Kagome hadn't once turned to look at him. Only... something was different... She wasn't stomping anymore. In fact, she was walking slowly and steadily... unnaturally so, like she was in a trance.
"Kagome, look at me!" He shouted, trying to get some reaction from her, even if it was another 'sit'.
He didn't get one. She didn't even seem to hear him. He wanted to grab her and make her stop and LOOK AT HIM, DAMN-IT! But something seemed to hold him back. Maybe it was the fact that her eyes were glowing a weird, luminescent green, or the fact that something on her smelled... unnatural, but he ended up following silently, intent on finding out what was wrong.
Finally, the pair reached a cave. InuYasha reeled back at the unnatural scent that was exuded from inside the cavernous mouth; a stronger version of what he had smelled on Kagome. The miko didn't seem to mind though, and continued to stride methodically forward. Pinching his nose so that he couldn't smell the vile odors, InuYasha followed. He'd be damned if he let anything happened to his little shard-detector.
As soon as the pair were far enough into the cave that Inuyasha couldn't grab Kagome and run, the cave walls began to glow the same luminescent green as Kagome's eyes, getting brighter and brighter until the half-demon had to cover his eyes or risk being blinded. The ground suddenly bucked beneath his feet, and even his superior demon reflexes couldn't keep him upright. Something crashed into the back of his head, and he blacked out...
Yes, it's short. The next chap will be longer, I promise. *boy scout salute*
